Overview The Texas Water Utilities team has an opportunity for an Area Supervisor. This position is responsible for supervising all aspects of operations for the Water and Wastewater services within their assigned operations area. They oversee, coordinate, and perform maintenance activities, as well as monitor and enhance system performance within their area portfolio. With the assistance of Operators that report directly to this position, the goal of the Area Supervisor is to maximize the availability and reliability of all the utilities in their jurisdiction, as well as ensure customer satisfaction and operational excellence. Work location and schedule This position is based in Bastrop, TX. Travel required within service area. Requires 24 hour responsiveness to various situations. What you'll do
- Supervises, maintains, monitors, adjusts, and controls the process flow of systems in their area, ensuring safe and efficient operation that maintains compliance with internal safety requirements, contractual obligations, external policies, codes, EPA and State water commission regulations, and laws.
- Monitors and evaluates system performances against safety, environmental, efficiency and availability objectives. Determines operational performance baselines and performs investigations or corrective actions where necessary to optimize performance.
- Ensures the completion of preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance by assigning, supervising, and participating in the associated activities using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Directs and supervises staff, participating in recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and evaluation of employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes
- Leads and works alongside the Operators for day-to-day work activity both on the field and in the plant facilities such as responding to and completing field activities, and general operations of water/wastewater treatment, distribution, and/or collection plants.
- Provides proactive customer service, diagnosing and solving operational service issues to minimize customer impact.
- Leads, supports the development of, and enforces compliance with safety documentation such as OERPs, SJP, SWPs, ERP and SOPs.
- Performs Site Hazard Assessments, Job Hazard Assessments, Field Level Hazard Assessments and site inspection.
- Regularly monitors all equipment and multi utility systems in their service area on site, and via the VT SCADA and or Apogee systems to ensure equipment, plant and systems are operating correctly and within Regulatory compliance parameters.
- Oversees and participates in preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities performed by Nexus operators and external contractors and oversee use of CMMS system.
- Identifies and reports performance issues and take corrective action to prevent injuries, financial loss, reduction in utility availability/reliability and system failure.
- Communicates regularly with operational teams within assigned areas, ensuring that company strategy and established best operational practices are being effectively followed and utilized. Escalates team questions and concerns to Management.
- Provides training to operational teams within assigned areas on preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities, safety, and performance.
- Oversees and participates in emergency first response as required.
- Assists with P&L budget management, forecasting and inventory control.
- Frequent travel required between assigned areas on Company time.
- Performs other related duties as required.
What you'll bring Experience
- Requires 5+ years of professional progressive hands-on water/wastewater operations and knowledge of industry regulations.
Education
- HS Diploma or GED
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree, this may be required in some circumstances; completion of multiple utility industry related courses, seminars, management and supervisory training is preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
- Requires a valid driver's license, active relevant State water and/or wastewater certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of water and wastewater systems operations
- Strong knowledge of safety and regulatory best practices and application
- Strong knowledge of plant operating systems such as SCADA and Apogee
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of applications
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to be a functional Subject Matter Expert on assigned systems and advise on their operations appropriately
- Ability to effectively supervise and direct the work of a support or technical work unit
Work Environment
- Moderate to considerable levels of physical activity on a regular basis
- May require moderate travel between work sites.
- Moderate physical activity, working with heavy machinery, vehicles, and/or moving parts or objects.
- Lifting or moving 25-50 pounds consistently
- May stay in one position with little movement for periods of time greater than 4 hours.
- May require working from heights, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Use of specialized PPE will be worn for work tasks as required.
