Senior Backend Engineer

Do you enjoy providing seamless experiences for customers? The IDEXX Vello team is looking for a Backend Engineer to join the onboarding/integrations team remote from Westbrook, ME.

But what is Vello? Vello gives everything a vet needs to connect with their clients-all in one place. It streamlines the ways they engage with pet owners with a single experience built for IDEXX PIMS. With software-supported engagement across the life stages of a pet, pet owners become informed partners in care-supporting better health outcomes. Vello is built on AWS with a cloud-native approach. We use Lambda for serverless computing, TypeScript for development, and combines DynamoDB with Postgres RDS for data management. ECS containers handle deployment, scalability & performance.

What will you do?

• Lead the technical onboarding process for new customers, providing clear guidance and support.
• Design, configure, and implement integrations between IDEXX's software platforms and customer systems, including APIs, data flows, and middleware.
• Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues, providing responsive and professional support to clients.
• Work closely with internal teams, including Product, Engineering, and Customer Success, to ensure alignment and address customer needs.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, integration guides, and best practices for customers and internal stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to streamline the onboarding process and enhance integration methodologies.

What do you need to succeed?

• 5+ years in a technical onboarding, integration, or solutions engineering role.
• Proficiency in API integrations, RESTful services, and data exchange formats
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Knowledge of ETL processes and data migration strategies.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript)
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple onboarding projects simultaneously with a proactive approach.
