The Senior Vice President, Field Operations leader will report directly to the CEO of Optum Health, Home & Community Care Solutions business. This leader will drive a growth and transformation agenda for the Senior Community Care (SCC) and Care Transitions (CT), former "Navi Health" businesses. Keeping the patient and member at the center, this leader will drive the strategy and execution of SCC & CT.

The Senior Vice President, Field Operations leader will oversee $4.3B+ in revenue and lead a team of over 3,300 employees in business operations and clinical roles, all of which are fully accountable to meet the mutually agreed upon business financial and growth goals. The critical focus for this leader will be in setting a leadership tone of empowerment, inclusive leadership and engaging the hearts and minds of all employees working in service of our strategy, to serve our patients and members.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Leadership responsibilities

    • Manage all KPIs that impact our P&L, including driving growth, reducing medical expense, STARs performance, coding accuracy and administrative cost efficiency
    • Lead the strategy creation and implementation, spanning assets in the benefit and care delivery space
    • Organize the current businesses into a cohesive unit to deliver best-in-class integrated medical-behavioral care for complex populations
    • Drive a culture of collaboration with patient and member experience at the center of our strategy and decisions
    • Establish a high performing organization, focused on engaging talent, promoting an inclusive culture and advancing efforts around diversity and health equity
    • Manage growth by partnering with internal matrixed stakeholders (e.g., Optum Health leadership, UHC leadership, clinical leadership and other business and functional leaders)
    • Be a talent steward across the enterprise; develop and coach growth leadership
    • Determine opportunities to integrate SCC & CT with matrix corporate services across the enterprise
    • Lead integration efforts including visioning, culture and operating discipline



  • Internal relationship responsibilities

    • Partner with Growth, Marketing, Corporate Development, Operations, Finance, HCE, People Team, Customer Office and newly acquired businesses to develop a holistic vision that demonstrates our value for the clients and markets we serve
    • Innovate for solution design and service offerings while fostering a high performing culture
    • Partner with finance leadership to drive growth while managing costs
    • Communicate and present effectively at multiple audiences and levels
    • Serve as a business executive, with an enterprise view, collaborating with peers across Optum and UHG



  • External Client responsibilities

    • Build and enhance our brand in the healthcare industry, specifically with organizations focused on behavioral and mental health
    • Develop innovative products and services
    • Lead, cultivate and deepen complex key client relationships
    • Drive complex solutions and expand solutioning with existing external clients and markets to drive growth
    • Pursue new partnership and acquisition opportunities to drive growth and member value

Required Qualifications:



  • Disruptive thinker, willing to challenge conventional and siloed thinking, drive change and offer a different viewpoint
  • Proven ability to operate and effectively navigate in a highly complex, matrix environment with a high level of collaboration
  • Proven experience and expertise in healthcare, insurance or related industry (ex. consulting, wellness, pharmacy, etc.)
  • Progressive management experience with ability to successfully recruit, hire, develop and engage talent
  • Experience leading teams on a national level with a bent toward transformation
  • Proven track record for achieving business growth and financial goals
  • Demonstrated success in accessing and influencing senior level and / or C-Suite clients, and / or business partners in a highly matrixed organization
  • Deep understanding of health plans, including Medicaid, Medicare, commercial markets and innovative financial arrangements
  • Strong financial acumen and prior large-scale P&L experience as well as budgeting and full risk and fee-based arrangements
  • Demonstrated leadership of driving results through times of ambiguity and change


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with Medicare or Medicaid, DSNP, MAPD, MME as well as commercial insurance, and/or LTC/LTSS organization
  • Experience leading a health plan or a care delivery organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including well-developed interpersonal skills used to influence the behavior of others across a highly matrixed organization - ability to speak to large groups

The salary range for this role is $250,000 to $325,000 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
