PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist, Sales and Use Tax will work with various members of the tax group to support the monthly and quarterly sales and use tax function to ensure accurate and timely compliance for US subsidiaries of CPKC, a Class I railroad. The US operations of CPKC are spread across 18 northern and central states.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Responsible for state & local sales/use tax compliance in approximately 18 states including preparing returns for filing
* Coordinate sales/use tax payments to ensure timely payment
* Assist with exemption certificates
* Prepare monthly journal entries
* Perform account reconciliations as assigned
* Fuel tax compliance
* Preparation of various other tax returns and reports as needed
* Cross-function support within Tax Department as needed
* Compliance with internal controls in accordance with CPKC policies and Sarbanes Oxley
* Keep current on new and proposed tax law changes
* Other duties as assigned
* Assist with sales/use tax audits
* Assist with tax planning projects as assigned
* Responsible for tax research as needed

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant fields
* Minimum 3+ years of multi-state sales/use tax experience
* Experience with SAP or other ERP system and MS Excel
