Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Director for Student Affairs - Center for Latino Arts and Culture. This position will report to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Provides leadership, management, supervision and administrative oversight of the Center for Latino Arts and Culture in support of educational programs, resources and services that enhance holistic development, engagement and sense of belonging, and academic success.
  • Handles budget planning and reconciliation, planning and goal setting, delegation of tasks, conflict management, and program assessment.
  • Liaises with a wide variety of departments and external constituents and fosters collaborative working partnerships; establishes and designs innovative educational initiatives to impact students and the larger university community.
  • Conceives and implements initiatives that support and enhance the curricular and co-curricular success of Rutgers' Hispanic American and Latine diasporan community.
  • Advises, supports and advocates for students; guides students as they work within the university structure to accomplish their goals.
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates student employees and recruits student volunteers for center-community outreach.
  • Develops and promotes alumni relations and represents the CLAC on University standing and ad-hoc committees, including initiatives focusing on recruitment, retention and graduation.
  • Conducts regular program evaluations and assessments of the student experience.
  • Creates and implements an annual fund development plan, including strategies for securing and/or expanding revenue from grants, corporate donations, individual donors, events and other funding sources in compliance with university regulations and policies.
  • Serves on University or divisional committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs or their designee.
  • Develops reports for internal and external units.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree, preferably in student affairs, higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of administrative procedures, budgetary processes, and staff supervision.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in cultural center management, student affairs, higher education administration, or community organizations.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience managing or supervising professional and/or student staff members.
  • Experience coordinating cultural, social, educational, and/or social justice programs.
  • Experience in office administration, project management, and management of facilities and/or operations.
  • Native or bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the realities of contemporary Latino, Hispanic American and diasporic communities.
  • Applicable knowledge of academic, student life, enrollment management, financial aid, health and safety, personal counseling, and disability issues at a large, multifaceted, research university.
  • Sound knowledge of cultural nuances, principles, sensitivities, and applicable concepts or theories that apply to the unique community related to the CLAC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated advanced content expertise and knowledge of research findings, theories, and best practices in university education/counseling, as well as identity, student development, and student learning theories.
  • Advanced knowledge of student retention studies, academic achievement, student learning and development, collaborative learning and group work, career development, and campus climate issues.
