Job Description:

The Vice Chancellor of Communications and Marketing will develop and implement comprehensive communications and public relations plans in support of the Chancellor's Office's mission and strategic goals. The incumbent will serve as the primary spokesperson for the Chancellor's Office; develop and direct strategic communications, public relations, community relations and media relations; promote the California Community Colleges with the public and key stakeholders; and oversee the marketing, branding, graphics and printing activities of the Chancellor's Office.

The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on the Chancellor's Office's evolving telework policy. The Chancellor's Office supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to the headquarters office in Sacramento if an urgent need arises.

Working Conditions

Hybrid work setting provided.

Ability to make frequent public presentations, both in person and virtually.

Ability to supervise the work of others in a hybrid work setting.

Ability to use standard computer and/or office machines for an extended period of time.

Communicate in a clear and concise manner.

Work in a climate-controlled, open office environment under artificial lighting.

Exposure to computer screens and other basic office equipment.

Periodic public speaking/presentations are required.

Ability to effectively telework within the state of CA.

4. How do you manage working with cross-functional teams to align communication strategies and ensure all messaging is coordinated?

5. How do you manage situations where your institution had to release sensitive or controversial information to the public? What is your approach to managing the ethical implications?

6. How do you ensure that digital communication is accessible, inclusive, and aligns with an institution's brand and values?

7. Can you describe your experience managing a diverse team, which included both full-time staff and independent contractors? Please provide examples to demonstrate your leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
