A Brief Overview
Denver Health Medical Center in the heart of Denver, CO is recruiting for a Chief Quality Officer to join our team. The Chief Quality Officer provides leadership, direction, and administration of the organization's patient safety and quality program, infection control, and regulatory oversight. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and in close partnership with Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Chief Quality Officer supports Denver Health efforts to monitor and maintain compliance with all regulatory, state, federal government, and the Joint Commission standards. Works collaboratively with department chairs, physicians, nurses, residents and staff to enhance the quality and safety of patient care though continuous quality improvement methods.

What you will do

  • Directs and informs the CEO, CMO and Department Chairs of national trends, issues and activities relating to national patient quality and safety to facilitate organizational effectiveness and organizational improvements.
  • Provides leadership, direction and administration for the Denver Health Department of Patient Safety and Quality (DPSQ), and all its related divisions including but not limited to clinical data-warehousing, data reporting, patient safety and regulatory, quality improvement, biostatistics, antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, and clinical informatics.
  • In conjunction with Risk Management, responsible for guaranteeing all necessary reporting to external regulatory bodies.
  • Implements a comprehensive and accountable reporting system for outcomes related to areas of responsibility especially for areas of patient safety and quality.
  • Plans and administers all quality management, regulatory requirements and quality improvement processes.
  • In collaboration with department Chairs and the CMO, drives reduction in clinical practice variation to result in highly reliable and safe patient care
  • Oversees all root cause analysis.
  • Provides information to the Board's Quality, Safety and Service Improvement Committee regarding patient quality and safety.
  • Serves as a voice for Denver Health's thought leadership on a national stage.
  • Is familiar with multiple sources of data which continually drives ongoing quality improvement.
  • Enhances employee engagement by providing the resources, support and tools to promote efficiency, innovation and teamwork.
  • Mentors, guides and coaches direct reports in order to expand their capabilities and build management depth in the organization for succession planning.
  • Establishes and monitors a system of responsible financial management for DPSQ.
  • Ensures the utilization and organization of available human, financial and physical resources and the development of efficient, economical and effective techniques and practices.
  • In collaboration with other executive leaders, implements initiatives to measure and improve the culture of safety.
  • Continues to engage in active clinical practice in the inpatient or outpatient setting. Percent time to be discussed.
  • Maintains and develops professional knowledge and personal competence through participation in professional organizations and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Master's, Medical, or Doctoral Degree Required
  • 5+ years of directly related experience Required
  • Communication skills to interact effectively with Denver Health's current service/client base, prospective customers, and all levels of DH management.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial and statistical information.
  • Ability to systematically gather information from a variety of sources, analyze information, identify implications of data, draw appropriate conclusions, generate viable alternative solutions to a question or problem and evaluate the consequences of choosing each alternative.
  • Knowledge of scientific and medical literature, standards of medical care and professional care established by various task forces and accrediting agencies.
  • Skill in facilitating a collegial relationship between practicing physicians and hospital administration effectively. Knowledge of ongoing activity in a clinical area of expertise.
  • Working knowledge of general hospital operations, the Joint Commission, Medicare COP, and state requirements
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

Licenses and Certification:

  • If MD or DO candidate, Board Certification and active medical license in Colorado required
