Position Overview:

The Senior Director, Technology Business Operations (TBO) provides operational leadership and support for the CTO's Office within PBS. Reporting to the VP, Technology Business Operations, the Senior Director, TBO acts as a change-agent leading the operational teams responsible for the Program Management Office, benefits realization, and internal IT processes. The Senior Director, TBO will work collaboratively and in concert with peer leadership across PBS and the Public Media System to ensure a strong partnership with business stakeholders during transformational change. They will influence the development of the Technology Strategy and help champion the strategy to key stakeholder groups within T&O, PBS, and the Public Media System as necessary.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience running business operations and program management offices for large, multi-function technology organizations. This Leader will have extensive experience working in and around media and content operations services and will be a skilled negotiator and communicator. They will be able to navigate complex situations with a large group of stakeholders with varying needs and expectations, while having a clear understanding of the ultimate business objective. The Senior Director, Technology Business Operations will provide Program/Project Management leadership for strategic initiatives and oversight for large complex projects that impact the PBS ecosystem. They must have a demonstrated ability to influence and work collaboratively with peer functional leaders in the Engineering, Software, Content, and IT teams at PBS. They should be comfortable implementing operational processes that are technologically progressive, aligned with the operational needs of T&O, and supportive of the PBS lines of business and member stations. They must also be able to effectively communicate the strategy to multiple stakeholders. They will lead an operational support staff of full-time employees and contractors, with two Director level direct reports.

This Leader must convey a passion for the PBS public service mission and project values of collaboration, transparency and integrity.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Collaborative Leadership
* Work collaboratively with other departments in Technology & Operations (T&O), other departments across PBS, with stations and with other constituencies, as appropriate, to ensure a high level of communication, understanding and customer satisfaction for T&O initiatives.
* Advise Senior Staff regarding technical issues, recommendations and decisions that impact PBS.
* Manage relationships with other PBS departments as well as external partners/vendors/contractors to ensure timely response and service delivery.

2. Staff Management
* Provide effective leadership of Technical Business Operations departments maintaining a work environment that fosters mutual respect and promotes high performing teamwork.
* Develop and maintain qualified, diverse talent through appropriate hiring, staff development and training, and effective, timely performance feedback.
* Evaluate and organize the staff to ensure that there is appropriate internal and external resource support enterprise wide for the PBS lines of business.

3. Enterprise Operations & Technology Leader | Strategy & Governance
* Establish metrics and program maturity models for operational excellence and technology effectiveness.
* Work with T&O stakeholders to manage the IT Portfolio. Facilitate roadmap with proposed implementation and support budgets/timelines as input to the financial planning for T&O, and annual budget planning.
* Develop and implement a sustainable road map for Technology Business Operations in current development and a future road map with implementation timelines and budgets with appropriate stakeholder buy-in.

Requirements for success:
* Minimum of 10 years of experience
* Demonstrated experience successfully leading transformational IT projects
* Demonstrated enterprise change management experience
* BS in a relevant technological discipline; MS in Technology, MBA or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
* Technical stature and senior management experience leading new technology and development in large scale transformations
* Ability to provide critical oversight and leadership of technical business operations functions that support a multi-platform environment
* Experience and knowledge of contemporary program and project management practices and tools
* Proven leadership of enterprise-wide technology implementations
* Demonstrated solid management skills, including experience successfully developing and motivating high-quality professional staff
* Proven experience managing an IT technology function from a financial and managerial point of view, including both capital and operating expense budgets
* Ability to implement excellent customer service-based processes
* Negotiation experience with clients, vendors and technology business partners
