The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Transportation Mobility and Operations is currently recruiting for a ITS Technician I, General Option located in Baltimore County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies within SHA.

Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to provide support to the State Operations Center (SOC) Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (SOC CHART) Program and the SHA statewide communications system. This position assists with providing statewide technical support at the ITS Technician I level required for various systems including, but not limited to: voice, data and RF Communications; wireless systems design, integration, installation and maintenance; digital and fiber optic transmissions; communications software applications, diagnostic and programming software; Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS): such as speed detectors, highway advisory radios, CCTV, traffic cameras, dynamic message signs, weather stations, etc. This position is statewide and is required to report daily to the primary Communications Division office; however, the position may be reassigned to support regional communications and ITS functions.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One (1) year experience repairing electronic communication equipment.
Notes:
1. Candidates for the ITS Technician I class may substitute completion of a one year program of study in radio electronics at a recognized training school, trade school or college for one year of the required experience.
2. Candidates for the ITS Technician I class may substitute possession of a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operator's License for one year of the required experience. Employees possessing such should list the license number and date of issuance on the application.

Licenses & Certifications

Applicants must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Candidate must obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or comparable out of state CDL license within the probationary period.


Additional Information

1. Employees in these classes are considered Essential Employees and will be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to Essential Employee status.

2. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and will be required to provide the Administration with a telephone number where they can be reached.

3. Employees may be required to demonstrate the ability to climb to elevated locations to perform electronic work on high structures.

4. Employees in these classifications are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

5. Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

6. The candidate will be based in Baltimore County but will be assigned to other regions as needed.
