Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Unit Computing Specialist for the School of Bloustein Planning and Public Policy.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Provides technical support service for desktop and classroom users in one primary location and three satellite locations (furthest satellite approximately 500 yards from primary location).
- The position is end-user-focused and will involve assisting users in resolving problems related to hardware, software, audio-visual, and networking components.
- Acts as Level 1 IT support as a member of the IT department, providing assistance remotely and in-person, and escalating requests to IT colleagues as necessary.
- Other related duties may be assigned depending on department's needs and individual's interests and skills.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires working knowledge of desktop software and operating systems currently in use with a combination of two years education/experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- This position requires a person to think fast and creatively on their feet and solve non-textbook issues at times.
- Administrative and organizational skills/experience and the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously are critical.
- Ability to communicate directly and swiftly to provide support and information for colleagues and end-users.
- The desired candidate will possess a background, keen interest, and desire to track developments in technology while also possessing good communication skills, the ability to follow directions carefully, and the confidence to work independently on tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with or certifications for Microsoft Office, CompTIA A+, or other-like certifications is preferred.
- Part-time or full-time experience in academic IT for a large, public university is highly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or other bachelor's degree with related work experience, is preferred.

Equipment Utilized |
- Must have a working knowledge of TCP/IP, Routers, Hubs, and Switches; Apple OS X 10.12 and later, Apple desktops and notebooks, Windows 10 & 11.
- Windows server 2012/R2 and later, Remote desktop MSTSC, Active Directory, Windows Domains, WDS, DHCP, DNS, WordPress, and any systems that may become available that would be usable at the School.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Many projects included the building and moving of various types of PCs and peripherals.
