Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Vice President - Product Management!

About the role

This is a newly formed role responsible for setting the strategic direction of horizontal digital capabilities that span across the entire enterprise. In this role, you will champion industry leading product delivery practices, own the prioritization of complex technology solutions in support of business-facing divisions and internal-facing technology consumers. You will interact heavily with the VP of Engineering and division leaders across Symetra.

What you will do



  • Strategic Planning - Drive outcomes and business impact. Set policies, standards, and guidelines for how the organization conducts horizontal capabilities strategy development and planning. Translate the organizational vision into an actionable and measurable strategic portfolio.
  • Product Management - Lead all aspects of the organization's horizontal product and capabilities portfolio and the delivery of customer value and/or user satisfaction over time. Create the product life cycle management framework for internal and external customers and users. Champion the importance and value of product management principles and appropriate product development models. Align the product management and business objectives. Authorize the selection and planning of all horizontal product management activities. Initiate the creation of new products and services. Identify how developing new products or adapting existing products can create new opportunities.
  • Coordination - Maintain awareness of the global needs of the organization. Promote the benefits that a common approach to technology deployment will bring to the business. Lead cross-functional collaboration among design, engineering, and business teams on prioritization, alignment, and sequencing of value delivery across horizontal capabilities.
  • Innovation Management - Acquire organizational commitment to innovation. Develop organizational capabilities to drive innovation. Lead and plan the development of innovation capabilities and implementation of novel processes, tools and frameworks. Lead the communication and an open flow of creative ideas between interested parties and the set-up of innovation networks and communities.
  • Demand Management - Organize scoping and business priority setting for strategic business changes involving business policymakers and direction setters. Engage with and influence senior stakeholders to improve the business value delivered from new or existing services and products. Own the development of demand management capabilities. Lead the integration of demand management with complementary strategic, operational and change management processes.
  • Performance Measurement - Own the development of organizational capabilities for measurement (including automation). Create the measurement framework and align measurement objectives with business objectives. Develop organizational policies, standards, guidelines for measurement. Provide resources to ensure adoption and adherence to policies and standards.
  • Feasibility Management - Establish an organizational framework and standards for feasibility assessment and business case development. Direct and lead feasibility assessments for initiatives that will have a significant impact on the organization. Engage with senior partners to clarify the strategic context for investment options. Direct and lead the selection of feasibility assessment approaches and techniques that are relevant to the business situation and options. Present feasibility assessments and business cases to senior stakeholders and supports decision-making regarding investment options.
  • Portfolio Management - Engage and influence senior managers to ensure the portfolio will deliver the agreed business objectives. Lead the definition of a portfolio of programs, projects, and/or ongoing service provision. Plan, schedule, monitor and report on portfolio-related activities. Ensure that each part of the portfolio contributes to the overall achievement of the portfolio. Identify portfolio-related issues. Notify projects/programs/change initiatives of issues and recommend and monitor corrective action. Collect, summarize and report on portfolio measures. Reports on portfolio status as appropriate.

Compensation

Salary Range: $200,000 - $335,000 plus eligibility for annual bonus program and long-term incentive plan

Who You Are



  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 9+ years of experience as a Product Management leader representing business needs, priorities, and technical solutions at an Executive level.
  • 6+ years of experience leading Agile delivery teams required.
  • 3+ years of experience in an insurance domain preferred.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise systems.
  • Proficient with relevant delivery methodologies, Agile, Lean Startup, or SAFe. Certifications highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, JIRA, and Microsoft ADO.
  • Some travel required.


Travel:

Required Training & Professional Development
All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra's corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses.
