Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Richardson, TX Job ID: #70627 Pay Range: $62-73 ph (W2) Duration: 6 mos Job Description We are currently seeking candidates for a Senior Mechanical Engineering position for the design, development, and test of dynamic electro-mechanical systems and controls involving items such as gear boxes, motors, and hydraulic pumps for communication systems on military aircraft and transportable platforms. The selected candidate will work closely with a highly cross-functional team to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product's lifecycle. This is an ONSITE position located in Richardson, TX. Responsibilities: * Assignments are usually part of a larger engineering project including analysis of requirements, documentation of design, implementation, and integration of moderate to complex mechanical systems and components. * **Responsible for the design and documentation of mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware such as gear boxes, motors, hydraulic pumps, bearings, and large rotating equipment. * **Support the creation of component control systems and methods. * **Perform analysis on components to ensure such requirements as sizing, strength, and dynamic load are met throughout the design life-cycle. * Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members. * Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews. Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to both members of own team and beyond. * Interface with a cross functional team, such as Electrical and Systems engineering, to ensure requirements compliance throughout the entirety of a product's lifecycle. * Work proactively and in a self-driven manner with an integrated product team (IPT) to manage project scope and budget, as well as identify risks and opportunities. * Participate in and lead investigations into highly complex, open-ended tasks. Search for and identify root cause of issues. * Contribute to prototyping and testing activities to verify product requirements compliance. Qualifications: ACTIVE SECRET clearance required. * Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. Minimum five (5) years prior relevant experience with Bachelor's degree or minimum three (3) years of experience with advanced degree or minimum nine (9) years of relevant experience in absence of a degree. * Proven track record in developing products for DOD applications. * Background in the design and qualification of automotive or larger dynamic machine components and assemblies such as motors, gears, and pumps. * Must have design and documentation experience on SolidWorks 3-D modeling toolset. Preferred Qualifications: * Active U.S. DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance. * **Knowledge of A-Kit electromechanical design, including the applicability of SAE AS50881. * **Direct experience with the design, analysis, and qualification of wire or cable tensioning systems. * **Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design/implementation of sophisticated electro-mechanical systems. * Can apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5. * Knowledge of military standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1472, and RTCA DO-160. * **Knowledge of commercial and military electromechanical form factors, design, and analysis methods. * Hands-on experience designing to meet and qualifying products for rugged environments such as those with electromagnetic interference (EMI), electromagnetic pulse (EMP), and nuclear exposure. * Familiar with thermal and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) best practices. (Ansys) * Working knowledge of Agile development methods for hardware. * **Working knowledge with MATLAB and Simulink tools is a plus. * Either familiar with or preferably experienced with Control Account Management (CAM) and earned value techniques. * **Experience designing using advanced materials and methods including composites and additive manufacturing. * Practical experience with designing for anti-tamper considerations for NSA compliance. * Practical experience with designing for TEMPEST considerations for NSA compliance.
