Associate Director, Forecasting & Analytics

Job Description

We are looking for an Associate Director to join the Global Forecasting & Analytics team in the Commercial organization, to provide quantitative and qualitative forecasting and analytical support for key commercial processes and business decisions related to both Vertex's CF and Muscular Dystrophy disease areas. This individual will lead revenue and demand forecasting, as well as any associated forecasting analytics processes, and will serve as a key partner to both the CF and Muscular Dystrophy Global Marketing Leads. This individual will also be responsible for evolving several forecasting models across these disease areas as needed to meet current business demands for both the Long-Range Planning (LRP) process and shorter-term operational questions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completing the refinement of integrating a new CF LE forecasting model into our CF model for Long Range Planning, which will cover many different assets.
  • Leading the build and evolution of an operationally focused DM1 forecasting model, which will bring together recent and emerging insights about the US DM1 market, inventory build, gross-to-net, market access, etc.
  • Leverage available data sets to evaluate, synthesize and regularly present forecast analytics, including supporting updates to the CF and muscular dystrophy forecasts and key assumptions
  • Own, maintain, and update CF and muscular dystrophy forecasting models, including such activities as: update model framework and logic as needed, ingest and apply analog sales data, competitive market data and analytics, and relevant market research-related outputs
  • Working collaboratively with cross functional stakeholders including but not limited to Global Marketing, Global Pricing and Market Access, Finance, Health Economics and Outcome Research, Marketing Science, Regional Commercial and Finance teams, etc.
  • Deliver robust quantitative market assessments with clear articulation of the key drivers, sensitivities, risks and opportunities
  • Function as a key partner to the Global Marketing lead and provide objective perspective on forecast
  • Define data analytics needed to answer ongoing business questions and oversee its execution.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the LRP forecast models and provide assumptions that inform the Long-Range Plan

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experienced in a wide range of forecasting methodologies and approaches, and continuously engaged and informed on new/emerging methods, both within and outside the biotech industry
  • Proficiency in complex Excel modeling, and experience analyzing and developing insights from large data sets, leveraging relevant environments and tools such as snowflake, SQL, Power BI, python, SAS, VBA, etc.
  • Strong analytical and business acumen: intellectual curiosity, motivation and ability to structure problems, diagnose issues and triangulate with multiple approaches while keeping sight of the "big picture"
  • Experience working with brand leads to support financial forecasting and analytics, and/or commercial launch planning
  • Ability to quickly and thoughtfully adapt to new and evolving business and planning needs
  • Strong complex quantitative analysis skills; experience running own analyses as well as partnering with advanced analytics professionals, and interpreting results
  • Deep understanding of the biopharma commercialization process; experience with go-to-market approaches and launch planning
  • Strong experience working with global brands and understanding insights from global markets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - ability to synthesize and distill complex information into a compelling narrative
  • Demonstrated experience as a trusted advisor and thought partner to stakeholders

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline required.
  • 8 years in biotech/pharmaceuticals in a quantitative role in Commercial / Finance / Corporate Strategy / BD, or 4 years in consulting (management, strategic or economic consulting) post-MBA/PhD, with meaningful biotech/pharmaceuticals and quantitative
