Technical Manager

Eagle Health is seeking a Technical Manager to join our team in Fort Detrick, MD.

The employee will provide technical laboratory support in the tasks of maintaining an ISO 17034 accredited reference materials producer of microbial materials and reagents. This includes, but is not limited to, strain accession, production of seed and production material, strain characterization studies, production of assay reagents and controls, inventory management, and distribution activities. Additional research activities may be included in this scope.



  • Obtain and maintain eligibility for an active SECRET security clearance.
  • Coordinate and oversee activities of the technical staff performing the activities in support of the accredited laboratory functions. Staff assignments and oversight activities will typically occur daily.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and conduct all BRMR procedures in support of the BRMR processes in an accredited environment. Workload is 800 to 1200 assays per year consistent with accession and characterization needs, 125 SOP reviews per year, maintenance of a microbial culture collection of over 1200 strains, maintaining accountability and developing characterization data and distribution of 30-60 samples (with the potential to occasionally surge in total vials distributed) to external customers each year.
  • Assist the BRMR Laboratory Director/PI with process improvement initiatives. Consultation will typically occur daily.
  • Present work at Scientific Meetings approximately 1-2 times per year as required.
  • Maintain a safe and secure accredited laboratory environment.
  • CONUS/OCONUS travel may be required in support of the diagnostic mission and/or presentation of scientific research.
  • Safely work in BSL-2, BSL-3, and/or BSL-4 laboratories.
  • Train and competency assess Division personnel on key laboratory practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Will assist in the preparation of technical reports, standard operating procedures, and manuscripts relating to their research efforts
  • Will assist suite supervisor and perform suite supervisor duties for laboratories used by the Division, This requires detailed knowledge of instruments, chemicals and biological work conducted in these laboratories, ordering supplies necessary for department projects, performing preventative maintenance and completing safety testing, revision of suite-specific manuals, conducting suite orientation, and coordination of personnel working in these laboratories.
  • BPRP enrollment is required and will be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations.
