Summary Responsible for implementing an effective Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) program and maintaining contacts and relationships with Garland companies to assess the risk of company relocations and keeping abreast of potential company expansions. This position supports the City's Economic Development Strategic Plan by performing a variety of professional duties, including managing programs that promote business retention and attraction. The role will also provide research, marketing, and administrative support to meet the City's economic development objectives. Develops, updates, and implements the BRE program and the associated strategy to promote existing business retention and expansion activities in Garland. Develops a pro-active business contact program that targets Garland companies that are considered high-impact or at-risk to retain and expand their operations in Garland. Gathers and maintains key information on local target companies including data such as employment counts, upcoming lease expiration dates, wage information and contact information to be included in CRM database. Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with Garland businesses, City Staff, and community partners including the Garland Chamber of Commerce, Garland ISD, Dallas College, Dallas County Manufacturing Association, and local non-profit organizations. Screens and qualifies retention and expansion projects and assists in identifying available incentive programs for targeted companies. Assist in recruitment efforts, including responding to industry-specific RFPs/RFIs, planning and executing company site visits, conducting available real estate searches, and participating in marketing and networking opportunities. Undertake research in support of economic development projects, marketing activities and workforce development. Assist with the City's web-based, print, and social media marketing programs, conducting periodic reviews and maintaining content for website and social media page. Plan, develop, implement and manage special projects both directly and indirectly related to economic development, as assigned. Work with internal and external stakeholders for the implementation of collaborative program efforts and activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Relations, Political Science, Economics, Urban Planning, or related field 3 years of related experience including supporting programs or initiatives requiring collaboration between multiple entities
Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
Master's Degree (or significant progress in an applicable Master's Degree program) in Economic Development, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Finance, Geography or a related field Preference may be given to graduates of Basic Economic Development Course, Economic Development Institute, Business Retention Expansion Institute, or substantially similar program(s) Some experience in Economic Development, Urban Planning, Public Administration or equivalent Experience with Web Design, and Developing Content for Social Media
