Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Continuous Improvement Intern supports the organization in driving process enhancements and operational efficiency. The role involves learning and applying lean principles and methodologies to improve quality, efficiency, and performance. The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure processes are compliant to customer needs and standards.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in promoting Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives throughout the site (5S, 2 Second Lean, Kaizen)
- Participate in Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Perform time observation studies on the manufacturing process for both OEM and Repair processes.
- Contribute to 5S initiatives and help maintain a clean, standardized, and safe work environment.
- Analyze performance metrics and generate reports for tracking improvement progress.
- Engage with operators, production supervisors, engineering, quality, and leadership to support deployment of process improvements.
- Support projects involving safety and ergonomic improvements.
- Identify and execute solutions to eliminate waste in the processes.
- Motivate and inspire teams to adopt a continuous improvement culture.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The incumbent works in a repair shop environment and is regularly exposed to loud noise, airborne particles, large machinery and moving part. Personal protection equipment is required when working in the shop: steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering: industrial, mechanical, aerospace, or equivalent.
SKILLS:
- Strong interest in process improvement and lean principals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Quality - Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
- Quantity - Meets productivity standards; completes work in timely manner.
- Thoughtful and effective communications skills
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English.
- Experience in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Exposure to Lean or Six Sigma process improvement preferred.
- Hands-on experience with data collection and analysis.
