This position is responsible for assisting the Safety Manager in developing, coordinating and documenting the company safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses and financial losses at regional, company or operational levels.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Ability to learn and grow in this safety role in the mining and construction industry.
  3. Must possess a valid state driver's license and have an acceptable driving record
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Ability to be frequently present on jobsites, mine sites and shops with a great attitude.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Strong working knowledge of health and safety regulations related to construction materials industry
  2. Post secondary education or BA/Degree in Construction Safety or Mining Safety, Construction or equivalent experience.
  3. General knowledge of insurance and financial matters related to health and safety programs.
  4. Working knowledge of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet or presentation software.
  5. Working knowledge of construction materials equipment and operations.
  6. Certified trainer or significant experience in training.


DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. * Collects accident information and reviews incident investigations.
  2. * Manages tracking software, where applicable, for accurate and timely safety data input and management.
  3. Generates weekly and monthly incident and various other reports as required.
  4. Schedules and monitors random and DOT drug screens and physicals.
  5. Coordinate and administer DOT regulations in conjunction with Human Resources and Operations (where applicable).
  6. *Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related organizations to update knowledge of safety program development.
  7. *Coordinates communications between shops, sites and safety office.
  8. *Investigates motor vehicle citations and motor vehicle accidents.
  9. *Assists with accident scene investigations and clean up.
  10. *Coordinates safety and training programs as required.
  11. *Ensure MSHA, OSHA, DOT regulatory compliance.
  12. Works closely with field personnel.
  13. Actively participates in incident reviews with operations.
  14. Files records and other documentation.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
  16. Conducts regular safety inspections on jobsites, plants and shops.
  17. Assists Safety Manager with company required programs such as Respiratory Protection, forklift certifications and hearing conservation among others.

  4. Knowledge of applicable government regulations and the ability to interpret and apply appropriately.
  5. A self-starter who can work independently.
  6. Ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate with multiple parties simultaneously.
  7. Willing to travel regularly from home office to support projects, and material producing facilities.
  8. Available to work nights, weekends and holidays in support of operational needs, inspections, audits, etc., as required.
  9. Organized and possess an attention to detail.
  10. Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills.
  11. MSHA/OSHA/DOT audits
  12. Strong training skills
