Training Instructor - NCR

Objective

This position provides required new hire and refresher training to Protective Service Officers, Security Police Officers, Armed Security Officers, and other contract individuals (collectively, "PSOs") who provide "guard" services to DPC clients following the Statement of Work for each contract with each client. The curriculum will vary among clients and contracts. This position will ensure that all PSOs have attained proficiency, are thoroughly trained, and received appropriate certification in the requisite coursework for their respective contracts in a timely and efficient manner.

Essential Functions

Deliver training curriculum in the format prescribed by each respective client containing all the content required to ensure that each PSO understands and performs the duties they have been hired for after completing the training.

Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of security training protocols and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate techniques and protocols in a manner understandable and adaptable by trainees.
  • Ability to determine strengths and weaknesses of trainees at an early stage to ensure appropriate actions are taken to ensure the overall success of a training course or class.
  • Interpretative Skills to read, understand and apply provisions of agency training criteria.
  • Patience in teaching new skills and knowledge to trainees in such a manner as to instill confidence in trainees.
  • Detailed focus on trainee techniques and tendencies to identify and correct any detrimental behaviors or aptitudes that may endanger the trainee's success.
  • Ability to make critical, unbiased evaluations of trainee performances to protect the integrity of the contracts, the safety of the trainee and their colleagues on the contract, and the parties to be protected.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Trainers have supervisory responsibilities over trainees under their care, custody, and control during all training activities. Trainers must enforce discipline over the trainees and immediately advise the Program Managers to whom the trainee will be assigned and the Manger Operations and Support Services of any discipline or competency issues that arise. Such issues will be promptly dealt with fairly and consistently.

Work Environment

This position will be primarily based at the NCR Corporate office. It will require travel to ranges within the NCR and sites outside the NCR to train DPC employees on non-NCR contracts and possibly third-party employees. The former will support the conduct of training curricula, the addition of new curricula, and scheduling classes. At the same time, the latter has oversight of scheduling, performance evaluations, and coordination with Program Managers. This position is expected to work between forty (40) and fifty (50) hours per week, including travel to remote locations. Time not spent in the classroom, range, or traveling may be spent in support of other needs of the Operation group as directed by the Manager of Operations and Support Services. This position requires responsive and friendly customer service skills, professionalism, and patience. Exposure to noise levels over 85 decibels for more than 4 to 6 hours per day can be expected at the ranges. Trainers are to use protective ear and eyewear that minimizes exposure to any damage to hearing or sight. Trainers may also serve as Armorers for specific gun manufacturers, which entails the safe use of clearing protocols for weapons, protective gear for cleaning weapons, and appropriate attention to detail in the examination of the fitness and suitability of a weapon. Must be proficient in the English language.

Physical Demands An employee must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

  • To stand for several hours in delivery of lectures in a classroom, firearms instructions at a range, teaching defensive and arrest techniques in a simulated environment, and working outdoors to teach vehicle inspections or conduct physical ability tests in varying weather conditions.
  • Will be required to travel to locations in and outside of the NCR to conduct training courses.
  • Will have physical contact with trainees with respect to handcuffing, baton use, defensive techniques, taser use, OC Spray use, and other security applications.
  • Will transport ammunition and firearms to ranges. You may have to lift fifty (50) pounds and carry over some distance. Carts and dollies will be provided.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a Full-Time position that will work hours as scheduled. The job provides flexibility based on the training schedules, which may involve nighttime work and weekends.
  • The position may require availability on nights, weekends, and holidays for projects.
