HDR seeks a collaborative, experienced practicing attorney who can provide high-quality, risk-informed legal analysis and practical legal advice to mitigate regulatory risks, help the enterprise ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies, and provide in-house litigation support, all as a strategic business partner within HDR. Our ideal candidate has both compliance and litigation experience. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, an ability to anticipate and deliver legal support to satisfy the needs of a dynamic, diverse, and global business team, and the flexibility to manage an evolving variety of assignments. More specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with in-house and outside counsel, and collaborate cross-departmentally to deliver enterprise-and-jurisdiction-appropriate strategic, actionable, and practical legal support as a trusted advisor to a large global A&E firm on a wide-range of compliance matters and related disciplines.
- Monitor, analyze, ensure compliance with, and provide risk-informed legal advice on various laws, including:
- Various government procurement laws (e.g., Federal Acquisition Regulations)
- False Claims Act
- Anti-bribery / anti-corruption laws (e.g., Foreign Corrupt Practices Act)
- Data privacy laws
- Economic and trade laws (e.g., sanctions, export, debarment laws)
- Safety, Occupational, and Environmental laws
- Other business conduct, employment, and ethics laws
- Other laws that significantly impact our business
- Collaboratively develop and implement proactive protocols, policies, and procedures to identify and manage compliance-related risks, including providing assistance with policies and training materials
- Provide day-to-day support of compliance review processes
- Handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality while displaying professionalism and tact with all levels of the organization.
- Detect federal, state, and local regulatory developments impacting our business and engage stakeholders to ensure appropriate risk management strategies.
- Develop, improve, and manage processes and teams (e.g., to conduct conflicts of interest assessments and third-party due diligence) to improve efficiency and risk management.
- Assist with contract reviews for compliance requirements/obligations.
- Serve as a key contact to facilitate legal guidance on compliance with HDR policies, governance, entity management, labor & employment, data privacy, compliance with laws including ethics, intellectual property, competition and procurement laws.
- Collaborate across stakeholders to provide legal support for claims and disputes
- Coordinate with outside counsel on a case-by-case basis as required by General Counsel.
- Collaborate across the Legal Department for the professional growth and development of the legal team through formal and informal mentoring.
- Review company policies and practices on a regular basis to promote the company's goals while appropriately complying with applicable laws.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- This position is in Omaha, Nebraska; due to our collaborative team environment, we expect candidates to work in the office 5 days / week. Occasional flexibility for work from home is permitted with advance supervisor approval.

- Superior collaboration, pragmatism, and effective communication skills to interact across organization, with clients, contractors, and subcontractors and drive results
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
- A minimum of 10 years progressive experience practicing law
- Active license to practice law
- Law firm experience relevant to job description (e.g., transactional, litigation, etc.)
- Proficient analytical and oral and written communication skills
- Business acumen, with the ability to think strategically and advise on creative business-oriented solutions to legal issues, balancing legal risks against business interests in complex and ambiguous situations
- Strong results orientation with a dedicated client focus and ability to establish a trusted advisor relationship with business clients
- Experience with complex agreements (e.g., drafting, negotiating, and interpreting, dispute resolving, litigating)
- Ability to work efficiently and meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations
- Ability to work independently while also being a strong collaborator
- Ability to identify and manage risk inherent to projects in the engineering/architecture consulting industry
- Supervisory or mentoring experience
- Willingness to travel 25% of the time
