Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Intern.
In this role, the successful candidate will be reporting to the government and community affairs team, the intern will support the government and community affairs agenda of NYU Langone Health. The primary role of NYU Langones government and community affairs team is to advance institutional policy objectives and to foster a positive reputation in the community and government arenas. The internship will include exposure to a world-class, patient-centered, integrated academic medical center to a full range of government and community affairs roles. The intern will have an opportunity to assist with issues related to local, state and federal elected officials, governmental agencies, community boards and advocacy associations. There will also be opportunities to support engagement with a variety of community-based organizations, including senior centers, religious groups, schools and social services agencies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research health care issues including federal, state and local legislation and proposals, health related articles and government reports. Prepare briefing papers as needed.
- Shadow members of the government and community affairs team during daily internal and external meetings and calls.
- Create and update legislative charts and summaries.
- Attend internal and external meetings with associations, federal, state and local councils and government entities. Prepare written summaries of the meetings.
- Conduct research projects related to health policy topics as directed.
- Draft correspondence to elected officials regarding issues of importance to the health system.
- Draft content for reports and newsletters. Summarize website articles, press releases, and submissions from departments, and write original content.
- Maintain and update distribution lists of government and community affairs contacts.
- Assist in the preparation, operation and follow-up for community events and visits by public officials. Attend special events to support day-of operations.
- Support efforts to identify and engage with community based organizations in NYU Langones catchment areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a
1. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Public Health, Health Care Administration, Political Science, or related field
2. Interest in health care and public health policy
3. Demonstrated interest or experience in a governmental office, government or community affairs
4. Strong writing skills and proficiency using Microsoft Excel
5. 3-4 days of the internship will be in office

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $16.50-16.50 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
