Position Summary	The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a full-time fixed-term faculty member at the rank of Clinical Instructor to work in the Child and Adolescent Outpatient Program. The Child Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic aims to provide outpatient services for children, along with training, advocacy, and research to address the mental health needs of the community. The primary purpose of this position will be the deliverance of psychoeducational services to patients at the UNC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinics through collaborations within a multidisciplinary psychiatric team. The Psychoeducational Consultant will: Conduct comprehensive educational assessments to inform diagnostic evaluations and ongoing treatment reviews. Thoroughly summarize the client's educational history, current academic concerns, and any relevant social or emotional factors impacting their learning environment. Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with schools, gathering essential information for accurate diagnosis, appropriate school placements, and effective medication monitoring. Conduct meticulous reviews of patient school records and, when permitted, perform classroom observations to gain a holistic understanding of the client's educational experience. Attend and actively participate in school meetings with parents, such as Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 plan meetings, advocating for the client's unique academic and social needs. Provide dedicated support to parents, empowering them to advocate effectively for their child's rights and needs within the school setting. Develop and nurture ongoing relationships with school staff, ensuring continuous support for students with higher needs and facilitating their successful integration into the school community. Provide comprehensive orientation to trainees, equipping them with a thorough understanding of the educational needs of patients and the range of services available to support their development. Share valuable information on school and community resources that foster positive educational and social-emotional environments, enhancing trainees' ability to guide clients and their families. Serve as an exemplary model for educational and inter-agency consultation, demonstrating best practices in collaborative problem-solving and resource coordination. Educate trainees on the intricacies of IEP and 504 plans, highlighting their critical roles in supporting students' learning and social-emotional development. Act as a skilled clinician for parents or children, providing direct therapeutic support and interventions tailored to their individual needs. Educate trainees about effective social and emotional programs utilized in schools, fostering positive peer relationships and promoting holistic development. Actively participate as a member of the treatment team, contributing to the development and implementation of comprehensive therapeutic plans for clients. Represent the clinic in community training and collaborative initiatives, showcasing the clinic's expertise and commitment to supporting the educational and emotional well-being of clients. Exceptional candidates for this role will demonstrate the ability to navigate the complexities of the education system, while being integral members of the treatment team. They will excel in fostering relationships with school personnel, clients, and their families, ensuring that each client's unique needs are met with compassion and expertise.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements	The Psychoeducational Consultant must hold a master's degree in social work from an accredited School of Social Work and at a minimum, 3 years of experience in child and adolescent mental health. Candidates must be fully licensed. Candidates must also have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience	Preferred experience or knowledge in early childhood development, special education, and collaboration with school systems.
