Responsibilities

  • Advise staff on laws applicable to private foundations, public charities including donor advised funds, and social welfare organizations, including IRS lobbying, self-dealing and campaign intervention rules.
  • Provide representation and counsel on a broad range of nonprofit legal matters that include advising on contracts, grants, business operations, organizational policies, investments governance, and regulatory compliance, as well as providing staff training with respect to these areas.
  • Provide support in helping design, implement, and oversee policies, guidelines, and other resources that implement or strengthen compliance with laws applicable to WFF.
  • Monitor legal developments in the tax-exempt organizations field and work with the WFF General Counsel in preparing and presenting materials regarding such updates and developing policies and procedures to address any changes to laws applicable to WFF.
  • Provide support for corporate governance activities as directed by the WFF General Counsel.
  • Provide practical legal advice to a diverse array of stakeholders on issues related to nonprofit organizations.
  • Participate in internal WFF committees and other duties and projects as assigned.


Qualifications

Who we are looking for

Qualifications required for your success

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in at least one state.
  • 7+ years of related experience working at a law firm, private foundation, or other nonprofit.
  • Experience and ability to provide counsel on a wide range of legal matters and the proven ability to effectively implement legal compliance strategies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and give actional advice to nonlawyers about complex legal topics.
  • Contract drafting and negotiating skills.

Additional helpful experience includes

  • Strong understanding of IRS rules and regulations governing private foundations as well as federal tax, federal lobbying, and state laws related to advocacy, lobbying, political activity, and voter engagement.
  • Family office experience.

All offers of employment are contingent on your successful completion (where permitted by state law) of a confidentiality agreement and background check. In addition, you will need to provide proper identification verifying your eligibility to work in the United States on your first day of work.

Benefits Information

Compensation Range: $255,000 - $280,000

Benefits Information: We offer a comprehensive and generous benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401 (k) retirement plan and paid time off.
