Primary Purpose of the Position
Winston-Salem State University, School of Health Sciences seeks adjunct instructors to teach The following courses in the Bachelor of Healthcare Management program for Spring 2025-2026 term.

Health Law and Ethics Course- This course provides an introduction to the specifics of health-related legislation, programs and their implications for providers and consumers of health care. The legal principles and issues are addressed for medical caseworkers, health care facilities and staff for injuries to patients and abuse of patient rights by the health care system. Among the topics covered are malpractice suits and legislation, criminal aspects of healthcare, healthcare ethics and informed consent of patients.
Healthcare Delivery Systems-This course provides an overview of the U.S. health care delivery systems. Historical, legal, ethical, professional practice roles and standards of care are discussed as they apply to a variety of health care environments. Emphasis is placed on understanding management and administrative roles in U.S. health care delivery systems.
Global Understanding-The course will explore social, economic, cultural and political implications that impact healthcare globally and will be viewed through a multicultural context. Cultural content, including awareness, sensitivity, cultural competence and cultural proficiency is emphasized. Upon completion of the course students will begin to understand healthcare systems and the effects on individuals and populations from a global perspective. Students will demonstrate the impact of differing cultural perspectives on healthcare and the healthcare management field.

Health Information Management- This course introduces students to the basics of health information management. It identifies the roles and responsibilities of Health Information professionals, the content of the health care record: administrative data e.g., billing, reimbursement, and consent forms and clinical data i.e., that information provided by the health care provider. Health information management nomenclature and classification systems also will be addressed.
All candidates must possess a meaningful blend of education degree and work experience in the relevant field and be able to demonstrate successful and well-documented teaching experience.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Healthcare management is a growing, diverse field of study that incorporates business managerial functions in healthcare and in healthcare related environments. The profession offers flexibility and the potential for advancement with additional experience and further education. As important, this field of study offers the chance for graduates to have a positive influence on the healthcare of individuals and communities. Graduates have opportunities to work at entry-level positions in the following settings: assisted-living facilities, community and government agencies, health insurance companies, hospital departments, and long term care facilities.

Minimum Experience/Education

  • Master's degree is required in Health Care or related field, from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in Health Services Management and Higher Education teaching experience preferred.

  • Prepare all course materials and lessons for the healthcare management course adequately.
  • Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, timelines, and an approved syllabus.
  • Provide engaging and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes.
  • Suitably challenge, engage, serve, and communicate with students to encourage participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect.
  • Complete grade books, mid-term and final grade submission, learning assessments, and final exam assessments on a timely basis, and respond to student questions promptly.
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as the syllabus defines.
