Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity providing Advisory and Assistance Services as a Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Software Integration Engineer/Architect supporting the US Space Force, Space Systems Command, Global Mission Data Dominance Branch (USSF SSC/BCTD).

SDA is foundational to Protecting and Defending US Space Systems that provide space-based Intelligence, Early Warning, Communications and Global Positioning services that sustain our way of life, support our national economy and act as force multipliers in times of conflict. The Global Mission Dominance Branch executes activities in support of the alignment of key space data initiatives. The portfolio includes data as service and data platform initiatives to meet evolving Space Domain Awareness (SDA) user data needs and objectives. Consumers and producers of data are internal and external to the USSF. The mission includes the execution of system acquisition, modernization, and sustainment for ground- and space-based SDA sensors and command and control (C2) systems, including the evolution of legacy architectures, supporting communication systems, and data systems.

The branch supports SSC's data warehouse, data federation, and cloud architecture initiatives. The Unified Data Library (UDL) is the foundational source to access and manage SDA data supporting USSF operational systems. The UDL supports the mission by ingesting, processing, and distributing data.

This is a full-time position at supporting the UDL Program Management Office at 2 N. Cascade in Colorado Springs, CO that may allow 1-2 days per week of tele-work at the discretion of the Government.



Responsibilities

An A&AS contractor is a knowledgeable and trusted advisor to the Government Program Office. As an SDA Software Integration Engineer/Architect, you will report directly to the Government Program Manager and provide Advisory and Assistance Services support in all areas of system engineering and integration of the UDL weapon system components to include web interfaces, data warehouses for structures and unstructured data, data access and security systems, ETLs, Cross-Domain Solutions, data catalogs, interfaces with data networks and buses using secure cloud based technologies and services. The UDL is the foundational source to access and manage SDA data supporting USSF operational systems. Duties include, but are not limited to:

    Engage in subsystem' design analysis and integrate with the overall UDL weapon system leveraging cloud services.
  • Define and review system specifications, input/output process and API compatibility; conduct data analysis and integration of disparate systems ensuring high quality and optimum performance of data integration systems for increasing data availability, resiliency and scalability.
  • Assist in the RMF process of the UDL.
  • Work closely with analysts and business users to convert specifications into technical designs.
  • Assist in the design and development of integration flows using an array of different platforms, APIs, data warehouses, protocols and data formats.
  • Oversee the testing of UDL weapons system component integration efforts using DevSecOps processes and technologies.
  • Work with heads of various UDL weapons system component software development teams on the design of upcoming software releases.
  • Create professional technical documentation and present for internal and external use.
  • Oversee multiple contractors to ensure integration of the individual components is planned, conducted, and coordinated.
  • Interface with various external/internal customers such as product managers and lead testers to gather and define functional specifications for software development.
  • Apply Program Management knowledge and experience to advise the Government Program Management Office
  • Support the resolution of project issues and deficiencies with integration contractor and UDL component contractors; Assist the Government to manage prime contractor performance as directed by the Government Program Manager
  • Review and provide comments/input to the development of interface control documents (ICDs) and other system specifications ensuring that technical and support requirements and strategies are addressed between the UDL weapon system components
  • Develop and execute integrated risk reduction recommendations and mitigations
  • Support the resolution of project issues and deficiencies with prime and support contractors; assist the Government to manage prime contractor performance as directed by the Government Program Manager
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Government Contract, Legal, Finance, and Program teams
  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with SDA stakeholders, including the Space Security Defense Program (SSDP), Consolidated Space Operations Center (CSpOC), National Space Defense Center (NSDC), Distributed Space Command and Control (DSC2)-Dahlgren, United States Air Force (USAF), Air Force Research Labs (AFRL), SDA, US Space Force (USSF), DoD Service Organizations, National Partners, International Partners, COCOMs, and intelligence organizations
  • Participate in Agile and/or SAFe processes and ceremonies
  • Support stakeholder engagement on matters affecting program execution
  • Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations upon government direction
  • Other duties as required/requested by the Government within the constraints of the S3 contract


Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Qualifications:

Clearance: Secret Clearance

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field

Years of Experience: 12 or more years of relevant experience with 8 or more years in a Software Development/Software Engineering or Systems Engineering or Test Engineering role supporting similar Department of Defense, Missile Defense Agency, Intelligence Community, or Commercial Space Surveillance systems OR,

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics (optics), Engineering Management or a related discipline with 8 or more years of relevant experience with 4 or more years in a Software Development/Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or Test Engineering role supporting similar Department of Defense, Missile Defense Agency, Intelligence Community, or Commercial Space Surveillance systems

Other:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience selecting and defining software architectures, including classical data-driven, monolithic, service-based, object oriented, and cloud-based architectures
  • In depth knowledge of and experience with Agile Systems implementation.
  • In depth knowledge of Confluence and JIRA tools (Atlassian Tools)
  • Knowledge of operational DoD and Intelligence Community (IC) data formats, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of cross-domain solution technical implementation.
  • Knowledge of data access protection and cyber-security activities relative to data platforms
  • Knowledge of data ingest, storage and retrieval techniques/methodologies using modern software patterns.
  • Knowledge of a variety of software languages; Java experience desired
  • Knowledge of and/or experience implementing processes and methodologies, including requirements definition and decomposition, design, implementation, testing, and fielding software and modifications employing waterfall, agile DevOps, and SecDevOps processes.
  • Knowledge of cyber-security activities relative to data platforms a plus
  • Fundamental knowledge of data lake architectures in cloud and hybrid cloud environments
  • Able to brief and interact comfortably and professionally with senior leadership.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies

Preferred Qualifications:

Clearance: Active TS/SCI, agreeable to polygraph

  • Strong technical awareness of SDA data systems, networks, interfaces, architectures, and data flows
  • Demonstrated experience successfully executing major projects, providing expert advice to colleagues, and presenting innovative recommendations for advancing programs and/or methods.
  • Understanding of and experience with government financial management processes and systems as well as experience with schedules and tasks across the program or project management spectrum.
  • Knowledge of machine learning or AI techniques
  • Knowledge and experience with using MBSE tools to develop architectures and DoDAF diagrams

Additional Information:

Location: Work is performed at 2 N. Cascade, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base and other locations in Colorado Springs as required

Travel: Up to 25% to CONUS and OCONUS locations upon Government direction

Remote, Onsite, or Hybrid: Hybrid - allowing 1-2 days per week of tele-work at the discretion of the Government
