JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS: Job Summary This full-time faculty position will support instruction for NTC's Sign Language Interpreting in Education program in the School of Business and Learning Technologies. The primary purpose of the Sign Language Interpreting in Education faculty is to prepare learners to become American Sign Language interpreters in educational settings and become licensed to work in K-12th grades and to successfully pass the Department of Public Instruction License 0020, Educational Interpreter license following graduation. Educational interpreters are needed to facilitate communication between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their teachers and peers throughout the school day, as well as be a valued member of the educational team, performing other duties in the school. The faculty member trains learners to be ready for their career and prepares them for all future licensure and national testing requirements. This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position that is expected to end by June 30, 2026. Minimum Qualifications Required In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Education: Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree in a field related to American Sign Language interpreting. Qualified at time of and throughout employment as an instructor by the Wisconsin Technical College System. Must also meet Higher Learning Commission requirements, accreditation standards, and/or licensing standards where applicable. Experience: 2 Years Additional Experience Information: Experience as an educational interpreter in a K-12 setting, community interpreter, or deaf interpreter experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, including language skills, reasoning and mathematical abilities are essential. Language Skills: Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, reports and emails; speak and may present information to groups. Math Skills: Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent. Reasoning Ability: Ability to critically think and solve problems involving a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization; interpret written, oral and diagrammed instructions. Technical Skills: Ability to manage and track document changes; create, modify and format templates and files; ability to use multiple computer screens and multitask in several computer applications. Customer Service Skills: Ability to actively listen, discern key information, and respond professionally; ask follow up or clarifying questions to diffuse escalated situations and offer appropriate problem resolution when necessary. Other Requirements Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite and database information systems (i.e., Excel), Learning Management Systems, Outlook/Email and Calendar systems, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, copier/scanner/printer, phone systems, laptop computer, tablet devices. Must have one or more of the following licenses: Department of Public Instruction (DPI) License #O020, Department of Safety and Public Service (DSPS) License, Sign Language Interpreter - Intermediate Hearing or above, Sign Language Interpreter - Intermediate Deaf or above. Must have one or more of the following certifications: National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Board of Evaluation for Interpreters (Basic Level or above), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment - score of 3.5 or above. Or equivalent qualifications, including a combination of education, certification, and relevant experience.
