Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

An RN, who, with minimal supervision, accurately compiles and maintains concurrent reviews of medical records and available databases related to the trauma patient, assists and coordinates data collection processes, exhibits proficiency in data management, demonstrates knowledge of age specific processes of care, and assists with regulatory compliance. Performs chart studies while maintaining the databases containing trauma patients and participates in the quality improvement program to evaluate care for trauma patients. Uploads trauma data to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and American College of Surgeons TQIP as required. Provides direction in data analysis and data validity of the trauma registry, as well as knowledgeable to identify trends in data and/or events, draw conclusions, research concepts further and make recommendations to the Trauma Program Director and Trauma Program Manager. Presents and participates in report generation internally and externally as mandated by regulatory agencies. Responsible for primary performance improvement activities such as, attention to details, accuracy of patient information, NTDB, state, and internal filters, and changing standards. Assists the Trauma Program Director and Trauma Program Manager in educating staff and/or the community regarding clinical care for the trauma patient as well as trauma designation initiatives. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferably in critical care/emergency nursing.
  2. Computer literacy to include working knowledge of PC to include software applications for Word processing, Excel, Power Point and database is essential.
  3. Demonstrates competency and professionalism in verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations.
  4. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical, and trauma terminology.
  5. Completion of an injury scaling course (ATS Trauma Registry, AAA Injury Scaling and/or equivalent) approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) within 12 months from hire or as class availability permits.
  6. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

  1. Diploma, Associates in Nursing required, Bachelors preferred
  2. Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent one.
  3. RN will have BLS upon hire (and maintain through employment) and be certified and maintain certification in ACLS, TNCC and PALS and/or ENPC within 12 months of hire. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider's Program. Have upon hire or successfully complete the American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registry Course or the Texas Emergency, Trauma and Acute Care Foundation (TETAF) Data Management Course and the Assocation for the Advancment of Automitve Medicine (AAAM) Injury Severity Scale Course or other equivalent course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Trauma Program Director within twelve (12) months of hire, or as class availability and department demands permit.
  4. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) or successfully obtained the CSTR certification within four years of fulltime employment.
