Overview
Are you driven to help Vermont meet its goals to waste less, recycle more, and keep food scraps out of the trash? The Solid Waste Program is seeking a person to join the Materials Management section. This well-established team values collaboration and varying perspectives and works to implement the statewide Materials Management Plan, Universal Recycling Law, Single Use Products Law and other waste reduction initiatives. The primary responsibility of this position is to work with and support solid waste districts, municipalities, haulers, businesses, schools, and other stakeholders to meet Vermont's waste management goals. The Agency of Natural Resources and Solid Waste Program have an employee-friendly telework policy, which allows staff, once trained and with supervisor approval, to work from the office as little as a few days a month. The rest of the days, staff are welcome to work in the office as they wish or work from home. While this position is limited service, the funding source is historically consistent. Environmental Factors
Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field. OR Bachelor's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) or more years of experience in a natural resources field. OR Four (4) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field. Total Compensation
