Position Highlights |
The Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the gross anatomy laboratory under the oversight of the Director of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory. The successful candidate will interface with faculty, staff, and vendors to support our gross anatomy program, assist with hazardous materials management and care of the willed body donors, and address issues in a timely fashion to ensure smooth operations. This position requires a broad range of skills in areas of operations and workflow in addition to experience working in a gross anatomy laboratory, body donation program, medical examiner's office, morgue, or funeral home. The skills required include competence in operations, multi-tasking, independent decision making, and problem solving.

Duties & Responsibilities |
Lab Support:
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, monitoring and cleaning of all laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure smooth operation of gross anatomy programs.
- Work with facilities and IT staff to quickly resolve problems with ventilation, electrical, plumbing, computers and plasma screens in the gross anatomy laboratory to minimize down time.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the gross anatomy laboratory by overseeing custodial services, including floor cleaning and replenishment of paper towels and soap supplies in the lab and adjacent changing rooms. Perform a deep cleaning of the dissection tables annually.
- Liaise with relevant campus and institutional compliance officers to ensure the completion of mandatory annual lab safety training for all instructors and students in the gross anatomy laboratory (e.g., formaldehyde training; blood borne pathogens training) and maintain records of completion.
- Schedule and facilitate fit testing for students requiring respirator masks.
- Work with vendors and UA Risk Management to schedule liquid and solid hazardous waste pick-up for the gross anatomy laboratory.
- Place donors in the cold room or on the downdraft tables.
- Ensure that excess fluids are aspirated from the donors on a daily basis during anatomy programs.
Inventory Control:
- Receive and unpack all supply and equipment purchases for the gross anatomy laboratory, review invoices and packing slips for accuracy.
- Organize the placement and storage of equipment and supplies and move equipment and supplies into and out of storerooms as needed.
- Maintain an on-going inventory of all equipment and supplies to monitor availability and supply levels; create sign-out sheets and other record keeping methods to track inventory location and levels; distribute and oversee the return of anatomical models (e.g., skull boxes).
- Ensure that all necessary supplies and anatomical models are placed in the lab prior to anatomy programs.
Office and Class Support:
- Provide office support for Block Directors, Instructors, & Lab Director (e.g., scanning, printing, faxing documents)
- Assist instructors with grading quizzes and setting up, proctoring, and taking down exams.
- Assist in greeting and onboarding guest instructors in the laboratory.
Budget:
- Obtain bids and estimates for equipment and supplies to assist with annual and long term budget planning.
- Collect data (e.g., on operational expenses, equipment and supply usage, equipment repairs) and prepare reports to support the development of gross anatomy programs and the preparation of periodic program reviews by the Director.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lifts and carries up to 30 pounds
- Occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 pounds
- Pushes and/or pulls using appliance dolly up to 200 pounds
- Moves objects from one floor to another
- Frequently stands, bends/stoops, kneels, crouches, reaches above shoulder height, walks, and twists
- Has normal range of vision, hearing, and speech
- May be required to drive for University business.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and respect for confidentiality
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with all levels of personnel
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, track multiple assignments, and follow up on pending services/repairs to ensure continuity of operation for the gross anatomy laboratory
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills; must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and accurately complete tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Strong knowledge and proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point) and other office machines and gross anatomy laboratory equipment.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
* Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.
* Previous experience in maintaining/operating laboratory equipment, developing written operating procedures, maintaining inventories and detailed records.
* Experience working with hazardous chemical, biological, and/or radioactive materials. |
