Purpose of Position
The Manager of the Scrum Master team will be a key leader in Information Technology. This position leads the Scrum Masters in their critical role of facilitating and coaching scrum teams for team health, high performance and predictable, high quality value delivery. The position focuses on overseeing and supporting a team of Scrum Masters, ensuring they are enabled and empowered with the skills necessary for engagement with their agile teams. This includes and is not limited to: agile facilitation practices to promote collaboration, the ability to remove impediments, and coaching team members to optimize their performance within the FSI agile standards and practices.The person selected for this position will be essentially acting as a leader and mentor to the Scrum Masters to ensure there is consistency in standards and practices for agility and SDLC across the organization. This position and its direct reports will not have direct management of the members of the scrum team. Therefore, this leader and the team will need to have experience using the soft skill of influence.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Scrum Master Coaching and Development:
- Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to Scrum Masters on FSI SDLC/ Scrum practices and Agile principles
- Scrum Master continuous improvement via assessments and regular feedback sessions to discuss challenges, opportunities and action plans to increase maturity
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practice sharing across the scrum master team, e.g. scrum master community of practice.
Scrum Team Effectiveness:
- Monitor the effectiveness of scrum teams and identifying areas where Scrum Masters can provide additional support, such as dependency management
- Analyze team dynamics and identify potential roadblocks or areas for improvement, including upskilling Scrum Masters on team dynamics and conflict resolution techniques.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between scrum teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to increase maturity of Scrum Master facilitation and communication skills
Agile Adoption and Improvement:
- Advocate and support the Scrum Master team in advocating for adoption of standards, practices per SDLC and Agile principles and practices within the organization.
- Identify opportunities to optimize SDLC/Agile processes and adapt them to changing organizational needs.
- Lead initiatives to improve the overall Agile maturity level within the organization.
Stakeholder Management:
- Communicate effectively with senior leadership regarding the health and maturity of the scrum teams and support and partnership needed to advance the teams to high performance
- Collaborate with business and other stakeholders to align on goals and priorities for value delivery
- Manage expectations and address concerns regarding SDLC/agile ways of working for value delivery
Minimum Education
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience * Certified Scrum Master with 5+ experience leading Agile Teams * Certified Agile Coach with 5+ years for experience coaching at various organizational levels (delivery team to leadership)
Minimum Experience
* 10+ years of professional experience as a Scrum Master and Agile Coach or Leader in Software Development working with Agile Teams.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Deep and various experience and understanding of the Scrum Guide, various agile frameworks, Agile Manifesto and SDLC to ensure practices and standards are relevant and effective for the FSI system of delivery
- Proven experience as a Scrum Master and Agile coach at various organizational levels and therefore able to leverage that to guide this team of Scrum Masters
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration, negotiation and alignment within the team and with stakeholders as individuals and organizations
- Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring abilities to guide and develop Scrum Masters
- Ability to lead by example as servant leader, coach, facilitator and educator as a seasoned Agile value delivery practitioner; proven ability to facilitate, mentor, teach and coach in Agile environments.
- Extensive knowledge and experience using various agile delivery health metrics for quality and team performance and ability to provide narrative to metrics being consumed by management and Senior leadership
- Ability to analyze data and identify areas for improvement within scrum teams
- Strong ability to lead teams across multiple domains and experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Proven track record in proactively driving and supporting the Scrum teams to become more productive and efficient
- Ensure Scum Masters have all the knowledge, skills and support to be able to provide technical practices guidance as required, such as TDD and BDD for their respective scrum teams
- Technical skills understanding the concepts for software design, development, and process integration and ability to convey to the team if there are knowledge gaps
- Excellent organizational skills, including ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and prioritize workload.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands
- Highly developed attention to detail
