PURPOSE:

The Planning Manager is responsible for Planning the everyday operations, in line with terminal yard strategy, inter-acting with the different departments and clients, ensuring the maximum in service and operating efficiencies are achieved.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Defines, develops and executes visions and strategies for an APMT

operation, including complete business planning, budgeting and

financial performance Manages the daily business according to the

operational principles of the business, the commercial relationship with

our customers and their business and operational priority requirements.

Develops and establishes a long-term business strategy for the

organisation based on the overall company vision and strategy and/or its

entities.

  • Responsible to structure and implement Control room to monitor RTG operations as we transition thru our densification project.
  • Responsible to Plan all yard allocations servicing Vessel, rail and gate operations following yard strategy for performance as well as OSHA, hazardous, and corporate safety procedures.
  • Responsible for Planning operations to achieve our budgeted guidelines in meeting production and terminal goals, which include zero accidents, zero service failures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all systems accurately reflect all loaded and discharged equipment at all times through the proper use of Express, and Sparcs.
  • Minimize the operating cost by eliminating redundancies, refinement of processes, utilization of resources, controlling and improving the quality of the operations department.
  • Lead Training on the job for Assistant Managers so they achieve a level where they can perform all the functions of the labor they manage.
  • Work with AOMs doing allocations as well as inventory clerks making sure system reflects all plans and current operations.
  • Lead Tos Functionality implementation related to planning like, Real time inventory and operations update, Expert Decking, Autostow, prime route, import optimiztion and train other AOMs with it.
  • Promote good working relationships between the steamship lines, vendors, other terminal departments and ILA Union.
  • Develop a properly staffed and motivated workforce to accomplish the department's goals.
  • Direct involvement in the management of the workforce to include work practices, productivity and discipline that is consistent with company policies.
  • Mediate resolution of operational issues with the union effectively and professionally, including attending grievance meetings ensuring the best interests of the company are achieved to address individuals or practices that may, or may not be, beneficial to the organization.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with other business units that would include corporate support.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Achieve the goals and targets assigned by the Director of Operations but not limited to:
    • Financial Performance Measures
    • Customer Satisfaction
    • Internal Business Processes
  • Create environment to where all employees work in a safe and productive manner.

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Necessary to perform the requirements of the position:

  • College degree.
  • Leadership: Conveys goals and expectations clearly; takes specific action to foster teamwork and keep people motivated. Is receptive to innovative ideas and suggestions. Think strategically about the long-term, and has vision.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrates flexibility to meet terminal, vessel, rail and all operational needs.

  • Problem Solving: Identifies and comprehends elements of a problem, evaluates all alternatives and weighs the solutions.
  • Interpersonal: Ability to develop a rapport internally and externally with Labor Relations.
