Pay Range

$148,920 - $188,880 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

We have an opening for an Electrical Systems Engineer.You will be responsible for a variety of maintenance, operations, engineering design, construction, and modification activities on LLNL infrastructure low-voltage electrical distribution systems and emergency power generation systems using leading-edge principles, technologies, and best practices. This position is in the Engineering Services Division within the Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Departmentand may require work at Site 300 in Tracy, California.

This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one day per week.

You will

  • Collaborate and provide day-to-day technical direction to a group of Infrastructure &Operations technical personnel, including shop/crafts personnel, engaged in the planning, engineering, troubleshooting, maintenance, and operations of low-voltage (under 600V) building electrical distribution systems including emergency and standby power systems, electrical components, and electrically operated equipment for non-reactor nuclear facilities and conventional facilities.
  • Serve as the Subcontract Technical Representative and/or Alternate Responsible Individual for electrical programs and subcontracts. Provide the procurement team with bids from multiple qualified subcontractors, lead safety meetings/pre-start briefs, mitigate safety concerns, oversee subcontractor's work to ensure safety, quality, and job completion.
  • Execute electrical engineering studies including short circuits, coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis; perform and review condition assessment surveys.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of equipment or systems failures using a systematic methodology to determine and correct root causes of problems, unplanned events, and occurrences related to the maintenance and the reliability of low-voltage building electrical systems, electrical components, and electrically operated equipment.
  • Evaluate electrical power installations for conformance with codes and standards for the Electrical Authority Having Jurisdiction initiative. Perform all assignments in accordance with safety, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
  • Provide solutions for complex design projects for system changes, modifications, and asset life extensions, prepare technical reports and present formal presentations.
  • Review building commissioning plans for design intent, scope, verification, functional test procedures, schedules, and training requirements, and provide recommendations to resolve maintenance and reliability issues for building electrical systems.
  • Interact with colleagues, mid-level management, and customer representatives on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and significant related work experience and demonstrated ability to lead independent work.
  • Advanced experience in facility electrical distribution systems, maintenance and backup power systems, operations, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Advanced experience in maintenance planning and operations, or facility engineering and management of low voltage building electrical systems.
  • Experience interpreting multi-discipline construction drawings, performing formal design reviews to vet applicable design codes, standards, construction processes and products.
  • Technical and analytical decision-making skills and ability to organize and coordinate multiple conflicting, concurrent tasks, and ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, write procedures and safety related documentation, perform engineering analysis and author safety reports, give technical presentations, and provide advice to management.
  • Proficiency in power systems analysis and design software such as SKM or ETAP, or equivalent method, for fault calculations, load flow, protection coordination, arc flash hazard modeling, transient stability, reliability, harmonics, grounding, etc.
  • Proficient in personal computers and software applications such as AutoCAD, MS Project.

Qualifications We Desire

  • California Professional Engineering License; membership in IEEE.
  • Experience in setting up a reliability centered maintenance program for electrical assets.
  • Knowledge of applicable DOE orders, Federal standards.
  • Knowledge of LLNL's Integrated Safety Management System and procurement process.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Pre-Employment Drug Test
