Salary range:
The salary range for this position is $142,800-$186,200. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan found here: https://aadocs.ucdavis.edu/policies/apm/apm-670.pdf. Application Window Open date: March 14, 2025 Next review date: Friday, Apr 4, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Sep 1, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description As Assistant Professors In Residence, these faculty members will be responsible for independent research, collaborative research, teaching, mentoring, and public and university service. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in epidemiology or another of the public health sciences; medicine; a relevant social science such as (but not limited to) public policy, criminology, or law and society; or another related discipline. Additional training during a post-doctoral fellowship or substantial prior research experience in the field is expected. There must be an established record of independent and collaborative research on violence, including firearm violence; a record of research that benefits members of underrepresented or underserved populations is desired. There must be recent peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated experience in the design, conduct, and reporting of observational or experimental research on the individual and societal causes, consequences, and prevention of firearm violence or other forms of violence. Some of this experience must be at the leadership level. Thorough knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply advanced knowledge of study designs and, as appropriate, quantitative and/or qualitative methods for observational and experimental research are expected. Strong written and verbal communication abilities are required. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to work cooperatively and collegially in a diverse environment. Candidates must be able to pass a California Department of Justice background check and work with highly sensitive data. This position may, at times, require the incumbent to work with, or be in areas where, hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards of the position may include, but are not limited to, ergonomic stressors involved in computer work. Field research conducted by VPRP investigators has required data collection under adverse and hazardous conditions. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant professor rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications. Our mission is to develop and disseminate the research evidence on which informed policy and practice are based. VPRP and CA FVRC are directed by Garen J. Wintemute, MD, MPH, Baker-Teret Chair in Violence Prevention and Distinguished Professor of Emergency Medicine. Our faculty and staff include representatives from medicine, epidemiology, criminology, sociology, psychology, biostatistics, economics, policy studies, computer sciences, and the law.
