DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Recreation or Senior Services Supervisor, Recreation Leaders assist in organizing and leading various recreational activities, sports, and programs and supervise Clovis area community facilities including the Recreation Center, Senior Center, playgrounds and parks, Skatepark and Batting Range.

Examples of Duties
-
Supervise adult and youth indoor and outdoor sports and activities such as but not limited to inline hockey, basketball, softball, volleyball, and soccer; supervise daily operations of the Clovis Batting Range including minor equipment maintenance, inventory, daily revenue accounting, and customer service; supervise participants at the Clovis Recreation Center, Rotary Skatepark, and Senior Center and ensure compliance with rules and regulations; conduct special community recreation events; organize recreation supplies and equipment; complete incident and participation reports; direct the activities of recreation and senior program volunteers and sports referees; and perform related duties as assigned. This position is for year-round sports, programs, and activities offered in the City's diverse Community Services Division including but not limited to recreation and senior programs. Appointed hours may be scheduled during weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Typical Qualifications

LICENSE REQUIRED
- Possession of current and valid First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain valid certification within three (3) months of hire.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Education sufficient to ensure the ability to read, write, and perform basic math skills at the level required for successful job performance.
Experience:
- Six (6) months of work experience, internship, or volunteer experience in any field.
Hours:
- Availability to work shifts scheduled between the hours of 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, seven (7) days per week.
- Some accommodations may be made for student schedules or other commitments.
Working Conditions:
- Upon completion of the training period, individuals will be required to work independently on day and evening shifts and will be required to work in several recreation locations.
Qualifications Knowledge of:
- Simple recordkeeping methods and basic computer operations;
- Basic English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- Appropriate safety precautions and procedures;
- Basic rules, regulations, and equipment used in various group recreational and social activities.
Ability to:
- Deliver outstanding customer service and appropriately analyze and respond to situations;
- Utilize good judgment and decision making skills;
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
- Enforce facility rules in a positive, professional manner and take appropriate corrective action when necessary;
- Communicate and interact effectively using courtesy, tact, and firmness in dealing with the public;
- Understand rules and procedures and carry out oral and written directions;
- Practice appropriate safety precautions and procedures;
- Work variable hours and work independently with limited supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Strength: Medium work-occasional lifting, carrying and/or pushing 50-100 pounds maximum; with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; -
Ability to lead and participate in physically demanding athletic/recreational activities; -
Ability to work scheduled shifts and work outdoors in all types of weather and temperature conditions.

Candidates will be required to obtain Standard First Aid and Community CPR (adult, child, and infant) certifications at their expense.
