Nurse Supervisor (Nights) Opportunity

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.

Job Summary

Supervise and deliver quality psychiatric and chemical dependency nursing care to all client populations. To serve actively and constructively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, supporting the facility philosophy of nursing care; to ensure safety and well being of each client. Provide administrative support to staff during after-hour hospital operations. Schedules and monitors the facility nursing staff thereby securing nursing staff to client ratio.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviewing all variance reports, determining methods of correction, and communicating pertinent findings to Administration and Performance Improvement personnel.
  • Collaboration with nursing and community counseling staff to ensure implementation of the facility's designated program
  • Ongoing collaboration with Department Directors and/or other facility designated disciplines to ensure proper medical/technical operations.
  • Represent and/or ensure representation of nursing services in order to complete all required nursing functions in the weekly multidisciplinary Treatment Team Staff Meetings.
  • Maintains familiarity with client population treatment goals to ensure and assist in the delivery of care.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Current RN licensure. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Experience in Psychiatric Nursing desirable. Preferred 1 year experience working and/or treating adolescents. Able to communicate effectively in English through written and verbal means. Ability to effectively supervise and/or direct the implementation of individualized nursing care. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluation of situations and/or making nursing decisions.
