Position Summary:
Command Cyber Solutions (a federal government contractor) is seeking a full-time, highly skilled Computer Systems Engineer - Journeyman to join our IT team. This pivotal role serves as an escalation point for both the Operating Systems (OS) and Web Application (Web App) teams, providing expert-level support, system design, and architectural leadership. The position focuses on managing and integrating enterprise-class systems across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Windows Server, and cloud platforms (AWS and Azure), as well as web applications including WebLogic, Tomcat, IIS, SharePoint, Power BI, and others. The ideal candidate will excel in designing scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions, leveraging tools like PowerShell, Ansible for automation and management, while fostering a team culture of Compassion, Trust, and Empathy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
*Architect and design scalable, secure, available systems integrating OS (RedHat, Windows) and web applications (WebLogic, Tomcat, IIS, SharePoint, Power BI).
*Partner with cross-functional teams (development, infrastructure, security) to align system designs with business objectives.
*Optimize system performance and cost-efficiency across on-premises and cloud (AWS, Azure) environments with SolarWinds monitoring.
*Oversee the integration of OS and web application components, ensuring seamless interoperability and performance.
*Lead deployment processes, leveraging automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell) and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) for system updates, migrations, and cloud transitions.
*Act as the primary escalation point for complex OS and web app issues, providing Tier 3+ support using PowerShell and SolarWinds for diagnostics.
*Collaborate with OS and Web App teams to resolve critical incidents, offering expert guidance and root cause analysis.
*Implement security best practices, ensuring NIST and STIG compliance, using Ansible and PowerShell to automate and monitor STIG validation and Patch Management.
*Conduct security assessments, manage vulnerability updates, and keep compliance tools current.
*Lead cloud migration initiatives, transitioning on-premises RHEL and Windows systems to AWS and Azure platforms, utilizing PowerShell for cloud resource configuration and management.
*Manage cloud resources, utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform alongside PowerShell for optimization and scalability.
*Mentor junior team members, providing training on advanced system engineering, architectural principles, knowledgebase and PowerShell scripting best practices.
*Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including architectural diagrams, deployment guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
*Communicate system status, project updates, and technical recommendations to stakeholders effectively, using automated-generated reports where applicable.
Education & Experience Requirements
*Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
*Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years in systems engineering, with expertise in OS (RHEL, Windows Server) and web application architectures.
Certification Requirements:
*CompTIA Security+ Certification
Security Clearance Requirement:
* Active Secret Clearance required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements:
Required:
*Proven experience designing and managing large-scale, enterprise-class systems.
*Advanced knowledge of RedHat and Windows operating systems, including configuration, security, and performance tuning, with strong PowerShell and Ansible proficiency for automation and administration.
*Expertise in various web application services (WebLogic, Tomcat, IIS, SharePoint, Power BI) and their integration with OS platforms.
*Prior experience with AWS and Azure, including cloud migration, resource management, and IaC tools.
*Proficiency with virtualization (VMware) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
*Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
*Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
*Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, DoD) and their implementation.
oLeadership and mentoring abilities focused on team growth.
Preferred:
*Experience with DevOps tools (e.g., Jira, GitLab, Azure DevOps) and advanced scripting in SolarWinds Query Language, PowerShell and Python.
*Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
*Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Demands
*Basic office work environment at government facility location
*May require participation in a rotating schedule for off-shift and weekend work.
*On-call availability for critical escalations and emergency situations.
