Overview

In collaboration with the Manager/Supervisor - coordinates activities of a multimodality radiology (diagnostic imaging) department. Works independently, supervising employees and operations. Performs procedures when needed and as appropriate to certification and competency

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Is responsible for daily operational tasks such as: Patient flow, delegation and assignment of tasks, monitoring partner performance, inventory management, communication with referring physicians, patients, partners and other departments
  • Maintains smooth and efficient workflow in the Radiology Department
  • Responds to technical questions, concerns, and problems from Radiology and other Mercy staff, including physicians and optimal operations.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and coordinates with Supervisor
  • Ensures adequate par levels of supplies and linen; reorders as necessary.
  • In collaboration with the Manager/Supervisor, ensures compliance with regulatory bodies, completes and submits required QA metrics. Helps to identify areas where improvement may be necessary.
  • Assists Department Manager/Supervisor with training for new installations and upgrades to equipment and software for modalities as appropriate for site and licenses held.
  • Assigns, daily work assignments, and reviews the work of medical imaging and related staff.
  • Interviews, hires and oversees orientation of new partners.
  • Assists with the supervision of radiography and ultrasound students and programs. Provides input regarding student evaluations.
  • Assists leadership with regular staff meetings.
  • Maintains and renews accreditation for ACR, FDA, MQSA and the state.
  • Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with government regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluates the accuracy and quality of images, and provides technical assistance to staff whenever necessary.
  • Confers with Department Manager/Supervisor for medical staff and technologists concerning medical imaging techniques and procedures.
  • Assists Manager/Supervisor in monitoring quality assurance program to conform to federal, state, local, and facility regulations and guidelines.
  • Consults on work in progress to assure accuracy and completes work.
  • Utilizes appropriate scripting, barriers and patient identifiers and ensures Universal Protocol is used.
  • Performs and trains specialized and more difficult procedures.
  • Reviews current literature and attends meetings and seminars to keep informed of new developments in field.
  • Full working knowledge of PACS.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited radiography program

Two years of experience as a technologist required

Supervisory experience preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

ARRT registration in Radiography and one advanced modality for: Computerized Tomography (CT) IEMA-DNS Radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois for Computerized Tomography (CT)

WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin for Computerized Tomography (CT)

OR

ARMDS/CMNT required for Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine. State does not require a license.

BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience in working with radiologic technologists, radiologists and support staff in a multimodality department
  • Proficiency in mentoring employees and providing corrective action appropriately
  • Experience in obtaining departmental accreditation
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly and effective manner
  • Demonstrated ability to foster excellent teamwork in a radiology department
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently
  • Read/comprehend written and verbal instructions
  • Basic PC skills
  • Manage stress appropriately
  • Make decisions under pressure and handle multiple priorities
  • Manage anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and risk of radiation.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Occupational Exposure: Category A - All partners in the specified job classification have occupational exposure.
