As part of HVAC Cooling, SPX Cooling Technologies is a leader in high quality industrial HVAC equipment used to cool large facilities like hospitals, data centers, and power plants. How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Project Engineer II, you will provide structural, hydraulic, and problem-solving expertise for cooling tower projects, spanning multiple product lines and materials. The incumbent will lead the research, engineering, and project management efforts required to develop cost-effective product solutions, ensuring structural integrity, compliance with design codes, and seamless coordination across internal teams and external vendors. This role supports new product development, order fulfillment, and field troubleshooting while driving innovation, optimizing designs for efficiency, and maintaining engineering excellence across all aspects of product lifecycle management.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Engineering & Design
  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and develop new designs.
  • Review, approve, and control vendor-supplied engineering documents.
  • Write engineering specifications for tower lines and components.
  1. Project Management & Support
  • Manage projects, schedule task, and execute document control processes.
  • Provide pricing information for new quotes and perform project engineering functions as needed.
  • Support manufacturing, construction, and commissioning teams with engineering solutions.
  1. Customer & Field Support
  • Work directly with customers on engineering issues and develop field solutions.
  • Train associate engineers and travel to sites to understand and resolve field challenges.
  • Sign and approve drawings for new and project-specific designs.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • 5-8 years of experience, or 2-5 years of experience with an advanced degree
  • Knowledge of 3-D CAD Tools, AutoCAD, RISA2D, and RISA3D required

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Training and experience with solids-based CAD & CAM software desired
  • Skill at hand-sketching 2- and 3-D objects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP System
  • Knowledge of national building codes
  • Basic understanding of design and application of components for cooling towers
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of s of cooling tower design and structural engineering
  • Significant, well developed product knowledge
  • Highly creative
  • Strong ability to visualize complex spatial geometry
  • Passionate about product development
  • Persistent and patient enough to work on projects for which results are not seen for long periods of time

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering, required
  • Master's degree in structural engineering, preferred
  • Has met all the educational requirements and standards to be certified as an EIT (Engineer in Training) after passing the FE exam
  • Must pass the EIT/FE exam within 2 years of BS degree or hire date, whichever is later
  • Must pass the PE exam within 6 years of BS degree, or 2 years of hire date, whichever is later

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
  • Lifting 10-30 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
  • May work outside at times and be exposed to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather.
  • May require working outside of normal work hours.
  • May require occasional travel to jobsites.
