How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Associate Engineer you will support cross-functional engineering activities, custom order processing, and product development projects. The successful Associate Engineer will be collaborative and creative, with excellent problem solving, technical expertise, and strong communications skills.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

1. Design and Development

  • Perform standard assignments of specific project tasks, testing, data analysis, and scheduling requirements
  • Design and draft 2D and 3D drawings
  • Review engineering specifications and drawings to determine critical dimensions and orientations for design
  • Create detailed layout drawings and review design alternatives in collaboration with manufacturing
  • Provides input into selection and usage of design tools

2. Custom Order Processing

  • Assists with customer needs and handle opportunities with a sense of urgency
  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing and sales departments
  • Analyzes product or equipment specifications as well as performance requirements to determine if designs can be produced by manufacturing facilities

3. Continuous Improvement

  • Share best practices and techniques with peers to enhance the skills of others
  • Research and stay up to date with industry trends and technologies to drive innovation and continuous improvement
  • Participate in other projects as assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and organization

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Experience in mechanical engineering/design in a similar or like industry
  • Knowledge of materials and applications

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • CAD experience with mechanical design and detailing work in air pollution control or HVAC
  • Experience with sheet metal/fabricated products
  • AutoCAD 2D CAD software experience a plus
  • INVENTOR 3D preferred or any related 3D modeling experience
  • Capabilities with analysis software such as Nastran, FEA, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong knowledge and ability to handle multiple products
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience a plus
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Creative thinker

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
