Overview

Position Overview: VTG is seeking a talented and experienced Systems Engineer to join our dynamic and innovative team in Chantilly, Herndon, Reston, VA.


What will you do?

  • This engineer will work with a team of technical professionals to ensure the maintenance and operational efficiency of custom software baseline and server hardware in data centers. The role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading physical server infrastructure. The work will be carried out in an agile environment, requiring exceptional flexibility and technical skills to adapt to dynamic requirements and multiple stakeholders.
    Key Responsibilities:
    - Maintain, troubleshoot custom Software Baseline based on Scientific Linux and Red Hat Linux.
    - Maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade server hardware to ensure operational efficiency.
    - Collaborate with technical teams to set up and maintain development, testing, and production environments.
    - Monitor server performance, implement improvements, and develop maintenance schedules.
    - Provide technical support, document activities, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
    - Participate in on-call support as needed for after-hours issues.
    Required Education/Experience:
    - Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related discipline.
    - Experience: 8+ years in server hardware maintenance and troubleshooting.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph required.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience deploying and administering Amazon Web Services, including work with AWS console and CLI (command line interface)
  • Experience providing systems administration to Linux-based applications, including the creation of Bash scripts
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, including CloudFormation
  • Experience with task automation using Jenkins and Rundeck
  • Experience with system log aggregation and analysis using Elasticsearch and Kibana
  • Experience creating container solutions using Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Experience addressing security controls as part of the security accreditation process
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience working in Agile and Scrum environments
  • In-depth experience with AWS Console, CLI, and manage services utilizing cloud services to build infrastructure as a code in an automated fashion
