DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Gather, enter, and harvest data from databases, compile information, and prepare reports to facilitate efficient workloads and identify trends or issues for corrective action. Create reports providing team productivity, physician intradepartmental feedback, project specific data and identification of trends or issues with coding and documentation accuracy.

Collect, validate, and enter data required for submission to the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other entities employed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that oversee the United States transplant system.

Maintain knowledge of current and developing issues and policy changes in UNOS, CMS, HHS medical coding, documentation, and outcomes registries such as Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients (SRTR).

Review and analyze inpatient or outpatient medical records for quality documentation practices, resulting in accurate and compliant queries to assist in ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding assignments or outcomes registries.

Work collaboratively with Quality positions on RFI content and with coding staff for determining principal diagnoses, Diagnosis Related Group, CPTs, and severity scorings.

Identify trends and issues for corrective action. Perform data abstraction from chart review/EMR for specific patient populations, directly related to the registry identified.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of registry standards and changes and communicate to appropriate personnel and providers.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in inter-departmental teams.

Assist with the maintenance of the transplant registry and the creation of formal presentations.

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in nursing, biology, chemistry, physics, IT, or a related field.

Experience in documentation review, quality, ICD-9 coding, and education/communication with physicians.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in nursing.

Performance improvement experience.

Transplant experience at an academic medical center.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
