Description and Requirements

As a Research Intern, you will be immersed in Motorola's cutting-edge technologies and methodologies within the field of wireless communication and signal processing. This role is ideal for students pursuing an advanced degree (Ph.D.) with a major in wireless communication or signal processing. You will have the opportunity to work at our offices in Chicago, at the Merchandise Mart, on various aspects of wireless network architecture and gain hands-on experience in several key areas.

You will delve into the fundamentals of wireless communication, including digital communication methods, signal processing, information theory, RF/EM wave propagation, channel modeling, and channel coding. Additionally, you will explore digital and hybrid MIMO architectures, which are crucial for modern wireless systems.

Your work will also involve advanced concepts such as massive MIMO, mmWave communication, and beamforming. You will contribute to the design of codebooks and signaling, as well as the development of network architecture and Layer 2 protocols.

Moreover, knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning, particularly their application in wireless networks, will be highly beneficial. You will have the chance to apply data-driven methods to enhance network performance and efficiency.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to strengthen your analytical skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of wireless communication. You will collaborate with experts in the field and contribute to innovative projects that push the boundaries of current technology.

Requirements:
  • Working towards advanced degree (Ph.D.) is required with major in wireless communication and or signal processing.
  • Background and expertise in wireless network architecture will also be considered.
  • Solid understanding of wireless fundamentals including digital communication methods, signal processing, information theory, RF/EM wave propagation, channel modeling, channel coding, digital and hybrid MIMO architectures.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence/machine learning and data-driven methods for wireless networks is a plus.
  • Understanding of network architecture and application of AI in network architecture is also a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and a good grasp of several areas including, but not limited to, massive MIMO, mmWave communication, beamforming concepts, codebook design, signaling design, network architecture and Layer 2 protocols.
