Description

Seeking to hire a full time Staff Research Associate II (SRA II). In this role you will have the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge Tissue Bioengineering and Regenerative Medicine research laboratory in the Department of Urology under the supervision and mentorship of the PI. You will be expected to:

  • perform research projects (molecular, biochemical and cellular) related to developing novel treatments and surgical technologies for lower urinary tract reconstruction procedures.
  • perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures at a fully operational level including, but not limited to, animal experiments, use of human specimens, tissue culture, protein isolation, proteomics and microscopy.
  • perform a limited set of specialized tests (urodynamics, tissue tension) on tissue and scaffold preparation.
  • take on a significant portion of the lab management duties, including supply management, ordering, and equipment maintenance and calibration. The candidate will also coordinate and assist with general lab support activities (e.g. making common lab reagents).
  • Will have some supervisory responsibilities as the day-to-day manager of the Undergraduate students and Research Fellows in the lab.
Pay Range: $28.88 - $46.46 hourly
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in a life science field (eg Biology) or equivalent combination of knowledge and experience
  • 1 or more years of basic science research experience (acceptable if as a part of degree program
  • Ability to communicate in oral and written form, for the purpose of providing information to others in the laboratory. This includes the ability to record findings and methods in a laboratory journal in an accurate, complete, and timely way.
  • Previous research experience with microscopy and tissue analysis
  • Ability to be self-motivated, work with minimal supervision at times, handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and establish cooperative working relationships with researchers, residents, students, and other support personnel.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and able to quickly adapt to the addition of novel tasks. All Required
  • Ability to perform general laboratory techniques such as weighing, sterilizing, titration, glassware washing, filtering, reagent and buffer prep, maintaining sterile technique with the required attention to detail.
  • Experience working with large and small research animals (mice, rats, rabbits)
  • Basic science bench work experience, especially cell culture with asceptic technique
  • Knowledge of how to use and maintain modern laboratory equipment including incubators, tissue culture hoods, centrifuges, balances, and pH meter.
  • Ability to recognize irregularities in work prodcut and invalid results
Preferred:
  • Knowledge and understanding of flow cytometry
  • Knowledge of UCLA Policies and Procedures, especially those for purchasing and waste disposal
