How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Engineer I - Controls, you will research, design, develop, and evaluate electrical and control equipment for heat exchange products. The incumbent will lead process development, engineering verification, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure projects align with organizational objectives, cost-effectiveness, and market demand. This role supports new product development, order fulfillment, and design improvements while advising leadership on product changes that impact profitability, scheduling, and customer satisfaction.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Product Strategy & Development
  • Participate in global product strategy and roadmap development for Controls.
  • Research HVAC industry control offerings to position SPX as a market leader.
  • Define and document customer requirements for new products and enhancements.
  1. Control System Design & Implementation
  • Design control panels incorporating VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, and BMS for HVAC and refrigeration.
  • Develop project plans and business cases for proposed product initiatives.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and marketing to develop customer-driven solutions.
  1. Market Analysis & Training
  • Conduct competitive analysis to assess product positioning.
  • Provide technical product training and disseminate product strategies across teams.
  • Continuously review and refine product offerings to align with customer needs.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Electrical Codes
  • Broad electrical systems and controls product and market knowledge

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technical aptitude and strong technical knowledge of electrical systems and controls
  • Technical aptitude and strong technical knowledge of HVAC products
  • Strategic decision-making skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Formal exposure to process improvement methodology
  • Strong knowledge of functions relevant to product engineering including purchasing, product engineering, production, cost analysis, quality, continuous improvement, and customer service
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Automation

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, about 15% of the time.
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
  • May work outside at times and be exposed to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather.
  • Lab environment for testing of equipment.
  • Various vendor and customer sites for access to electrical equipment
  • Lifting 10-30 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
