Job Summary: Ski Patrol is responsible for performing guest service functions such as accident handling, administering first aid, trail maintenance, mountain sweeps, lift evacuation and avalanche mitigation including explosives handling. Job duties vary depending on experience level which will be assessed upon employment.

Please note we are currently hiring for the remainder of the 2024-2025 winter season.

Applicants must be 18 years of age.

Hourly:

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of the Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Base hourly pay range: $23.50 - $38.00 per hour

Job Details:
  • Seasonal full-time positions available supporting the Palisades and Alpine Ski Patrol Teams
  • Position is frequently exposed and immersed in outdoor winter weather
  • Job Responsibilities and requirements vary based on patrol level


Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks include the following; other duties may be assigned:
  • Provide customers with top quality customer service in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Adheres with service and safety standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Mitigate skiing hazards through appropriate and consistent markings and signage
  • Evaluate skiers for injuries and administer first aid as necessary
  • Transport injured skiers by, toboggan or snowmobile
  • Mitigate avalanche hazards through the application of standard forecasting and control procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and document
  • Enforce policies in a fair, consistent manner, including skier safety, speed control, citizen's arrest as necessary.
  • Actively anticipate and meet guest needs
  • Act as Mountain Dispatch
  • Positively assist and interact with other employees and departments
  • Maintain and improve patrol skills
  • Avalanche rescue beacon expertise
  • Assist and expedite avalanche and missing person rescues
  • Enforce safety standards in accordance with company policies and procedures. Enforce Conduct Standards Responsibility and Courtesy Code policies in a fair, consistent manner, including skier safety, speed control, citizen's arrest as necessary. Provide documented safety education and support RTP/Conduct Standards tracking.


Guest Service
  • Proactively provide assistance and advice to guests in a friendly manner
  • Interact positively with all guests, in all circumstances
  • Actively seek information if unknown not sure what this means
  • Completes all Incident forms and necessary documentation correctly and legibly including computerized long forms


Hill Safety
  • Set up sign/banner plan in assigned complex
  • Maintain all established Hill Safety signs, barricades, bamboo and rope lines
  • Participate in Speed Control Program & Enforce ski area policies
  • Maintain proper height of tower pads
  • Learn all knots used for anchors, belays and improvised harnesses
  • Learn rope management and proper belaying technique
  • Drives loaded sled with or without a tail roper / Toboggan Skills Level I
  • Certified to operate snowmobile and follow prescribed routes. Can transport guests safely
  • Observe ski area boundaries during operation, assess tracks leaving and/or entering and report to supervisor


Avalanche Rescue & Control
  • Participate in Avalanche Control and capable as route follower
  • Participate in in-house avalanche control training and explosives orientation
  • Can locate double buried avalanche transceiver in 5 minutes
  • Can participate in probe line probably don't want to include avalanche education in the level requirements


Competencies and Job Requirements:
Required:
  • Effective communication skills, oral & written
  • Strong sense of customer service & safety awareness
  • Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Have a neat & clean appearance in compliance with the company grooming standards
  • Punctual, able to report at scheduled start time;able to arrive by 5:00 am, regardless of weather or road conditions
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Expert skier in all weather and snow conditions on all slopes, carrying heavy and/or awkward loads.
  • Able to maintain a calm, controlled demeanor during difficult or trying situations or confrontations
  • Basic radio communications knowledge
  • Knots and ropes general knowledge
  • Chair lift evacuation
  • Able to understand mountain meteorology, snow pack metamorphism, avalanche dynamics
  • Able to work longer hours and/or additional days if requested

Preferred:
  • Basic explosives experience


Education and Experience:
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • OEC/EMT Certified
  • Current CPR Certification

Preferred
  • 1 year experience as Professional Ski Patrol
  • Extensive winter mountaineering experience


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear, smell, and ski. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects tools or controls. Must be capable of walking or standing 70% or more of a normal 9 hour work shift. Must be capable of skiing 50% or more of a normal 9 hour day. Must be capable of occasionally lifting and pushing or pulling 100 lbs or more, and frequently lifting, pushing or pulling, and carrying 20-75 lbs. Must be capable of frequent climbing movements, walking on uneven terrain, walking on snow and ice, skiing, and operating a snowmobile. Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:
Indoor/Outdoor: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, and blizzard conditions
Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the work place is usually moderate.
Equipment Used in Job: Skis, snowmobiles, radios, first aid supplies, sleds, shovels, ice axes, ropes, explosives
