About us

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we're on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We're looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

The Advanced Concepts and Technologies (ACT) team sits within Viasat's Global Space Networks division. The ACT team leads the exploration of breakthrough innovations by focusing on early-stage business opportunities, exploring various system concepts and performing technology feasibilities and trade-off. Examples of the team's work include:

  • Enabling a pipeline of innovation opportunities by entering into partnerships
  • Performing due diligence on internally and external opportunities
  • Performing in-depth technological and business model analysis, trade-offs and studies
  • Building and delivering proof of concepts, proof of value and prototypes to validate these opportunities, delivered through the management of multidisciplinary and cross divisional team structures.

Interns on this team will explore, validate, and unlock the value of new advanced concepts, ranging from satellites, network infrastructures, down to components or algorithms. You will help shape and support the design, prototype and delivery of new service concepts. These can start spread across deep technical feasibility studies or move to hands-on proof of concepts demonstrated over the air. You will perform technological assessments and determine if the technology has potential to be innovative, whether Viasat should be a key player, and/or protect the business from risks associated with it.

The day-to-day

You will support in the development of existing projects which range from early stage exploratory concepts, to larger (but still early stage development) programs with external and internal business funding. The activities can range from typical systems engineering activities (requirements management, design documentation, verification and testing activities, etc.), to concept development, assisting with technical inputs to relevant bids, and working with teams across the business on strategy and implementation.

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship.
  • Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.
