Position Overview:
The primary focus of this role will be overall project management responsibility for both routine and complex projects, along with designing new building structures as well as structural alterations, renovations, and additions to existing buildings within the respective markets listed below. In addition, this role will assist field staff, General Contractors, Architects, and Engineers to ensure compliance with specifications and design during construction.
Project types include Military/Department of Defense facilities and bases, Federal, Justice, K-12, Higher Education, Corporate Commercial, Hospitality, Wastewater Treatment Plants, Cultural & Historic, and Residential.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct preliminary and detailed structural analysis and design, ensuring compliance with local and national building codes and standards.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of structural engineering principles and effectively communicate technical ideas and solutions to team members and clients.
- Communicate task assignments and expectations to each team member.
- Monitor team members' efficiency and respond to changes in team staffing requirements.
- Direct and coordinate subconsultants.
- Mentor other engineers within the Structural department.
- Review designs prepared by others as part of PRIME AE's QA/QC process.
- Establish and adhere to project budget, schedule, and milestones; related to scope of work.
- Conduct meetings and communicate regularly with clients to provide design guidance and report on project progress.
- Work with business development and marketing to prepare fee estimates and establish the scope of services for proposals.
- Report project progress for invoicing.
- Work with the accounting department to assist in the collection of outstanding invoices.
- Provide performance review input to the department director for project team members.
- Seek experience and continuing education to fulfill requirements for licensure or credentials.
- Participate in marketing and project-related activities and presentations.
- Participate and seek leadership roles in professional/community organizations and activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or Equivalent; Masters preferred.
- PE is required.
- Due to the projects associated with this position, US Citizenship is required.
- 10+ years' experience in Structural design with a strong understanding of structural systems, construction means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software, including Revit, RISA, and Enercalc.
- Experience in designing federal, public sector, education, wastewater treatment plants, and restoration projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and design independently on projects from the beginning to the end.
- Must be able to follow and properly apply market specific guidelines, the practices and policies of the associated local and building codes, discipline, divisions and firm.
- Excellent organizational skills and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage deadline-driven tasks while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to travel for occasional pre-determined, scheduled site visits.
