The Role

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Senior Technical Writer. The Senior Technical Writer is an integral member of the Finishing WC Capital Engineering Project Team. This position will support a 24/7 high speed, automated manufacturing operation and the introduction of new capital equipment into the factory. Additionally, the Sr. Technical Writer will initiate and execute all required transactions in the current change control system to help bring the implementation of new equipment to fruition. This will include creating change requests (CR's), Change Notices (CN's), change implementation plans in the system, and routing project documents in defined databases for approvals. Responsibilities include reviewing, editing and/or creating technical medical documentation such as batch records, specifications, standard operating procedures, etc. Interviewing and conferring with SME's will be necessary to develop the required documentation. Determining the needs of end users of technical documentation when developing these documents will be necessary.

This position is located in Rochester, NY.

The Responsibilities
  • Initiates, evaluates and executes Change Requests, Change Notices, Change Implementation plans, Controlled Document and associated technical documentation for changes in the designated systems.

  • Independently interacts with approvers to resolve concerns.

  • Creates, edits, and maintains batch records, specifications, drawings, procedures and associated technical documentation for Finishing WC equipment, components, and assemblies ensuring quality standards and consistency.

  • Leads and/or participates in large capital projects in the Finishing WC which impact a wide variety of controlled document types, of which the Tech. Writer takes ownership of routing through the approval process.

  • Completes registration of new materials, Obsoletion and Bill of Materials updates in SAP via Service Now Requests. Maintains part number database.

  • Interacts with various departments and individuals to establish priorities and deadlines for implementation of changes and to coordinate effectivity of BTRs and other Controlled Documents.

  • Provides necessary support to Packaging Engineers for artwork, controlled documents and SAP updates. Verifies artwork, approves printer's proof from vendors, proofreads artwork and SPC changes.

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • B.S./B.A. degree in relevant field preferred such as English, Communications, Journalism, computer Science, Engineering or Healthcare.

  • Minimum 4 years in relatable field experience.

  • Ability to build relationships and effectively communicate status and opportunities for improvement throughout the team.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe.

  • Familiarity with technical writing and documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, insight generation and critical thinking skills.

  • Self-initiator, results driven and action & detail oriented.

  • Self-directed, the ability to work independently, and being highly-motivated.

  • Technical Writers often work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment, so it's important they can stay focused and carry out their tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Proven attention to detail and patience completing repetitive tasks.

Preferred:

  • Strong project / program management skills

  • Familiarity with SAP, Trackwise, Windchill.

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office environment. Up to 75% of time at desk, standing or sitting extended periods of time. No strenuous physical activity, though occasional light lifting of files and related materials (up to 10 lbs.) is required. Will require domestic and international travel up to 20%. Ability to travel on short notice.

Salary Transparency

Salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including: education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on that facts and circumstances of each case. Salary range for this position is $68,000 to $116,000 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
