Staff Accountant - Richardson, TX!
Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in the monthly close cycle, focusing on ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams. The Staff Accountant will also contribute to year-end closing activities, reconciliations, audit requests, and ad-hoc financial analyses.
Level:
Work is primarily independent with occasional guidance. Specialized in the monthly close cycle, fixed asset management, and lease accounting compliance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review journal entries for monthly close cycles, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and in a timely manner.
- Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including fixed assets, lease-related accounts, and unit entries.
- Collaborate with manager to ensure accurate financial reporting, highlighting trends, variances, and identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant financial information for units' utilization, fixed asset and lease-related transactions.
- Assist in the management and implementation of lease accounting software, including system testing, data migration, and ongoing updates.
- Coordinate on various audits, such as PBC audit and FAR audit.
- Participate in training on accounting technical topics for the monthly close process.
- Identify efficiency measures and/or adopt best practice recommended by auditors to streamline workflows and ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Support the integration for accounting practices for acquired companies.
- Provide ad-hoc analysis and report as requested.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of the monthly close cycle, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Strong knowledge of accounting/consulting software, specifically Deltek Vantagepoint, and Microsoft Excel for data entry analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Knowledge of lease accounting software is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain a high level of integrity and adhere to ethical accounting practices.
Education, Experience and Licensure: (Minimum qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or related field.
- Certification is desired (e.g. CPA, CMA).
Physical Requirements: (minimum qualifications)
- Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to travel to various project sites.
- Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
