Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Worldwide campus is currently hiring adjunct faculty to teach MSHF 606 - Human Cognition at our Worldwide campus.

Course Description

This course examines human cognitive processes, both simple and complex, and normal human cognitive functioning. It provides an overview of what human cognition is and what it involves. It examines the processes by which humans gather data and information, including how humans' sense and perceive the surrounding environment to how humans recall and process data and information from all forms of memory. The course also examines the impacts of constructs such as attention, sensation, and perception on those processes. Next it examines how humans organize knowledge in the mind, as well as the impact language has on doing so. It also examines the impact of reasoning and creativity on the processes of risk assessment, problem solving, and decision making. Finally, the course provides an overview of human decision-making strategies, including the differing requirements, strengths, and weaknesses of each strategy, as well as of strategies for decision making in dynamic environments.

Please note that ERAU policy requires that all adjuncts be physically located within the United States while working for the University, including during training. Presently, we are able to support work for new adjuncts from all U.S. states except California. ERAU does not support work from international locations with some limited exceptions for individuals who are residing and working from U.S. military bases.

If selected for this role, the candidate will be required to provide proof of stated qualifications. This includes, but is not limited to, official transcripts, copies of professional licenses/certifications, documentation of military experience, and/or verified professional industry related experience.

Doctor's or Master's degree in teaching discipline, or a Masters degree with a concentration in teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).

Appropriate Certification:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Medicine (other than Aerospace/Biomedical) with cognate or extensive experience in discipline

Psychology (other than General/Cognitive) with cognate or extensive experience in discipline
