Pay Range

$120,510 $147,564 Annually for 393.1

$145,740 $178,464 Annually for 393.2

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

We have an opening for a Windows Desktop Deployment Automation specialist in the Systems Management Solutions Group (SMSG), and you will play a crucial role in managing and automating the Windows deployment process, ensuring the smooth operation and efficiency of the service responsible for Windows deployment. This position is in the Information Technology Solutions Division (ITSD) within the LivIT Program in the Computing Directorate.

This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

This position will be filled at eitherlevel based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Operate and maintain the services responsible for Windows OS and application deployment, ensuring uninterrupted service availability for our customers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any service-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and optimize the service for performance and scalability.
  • Participate in standard image development, customizations, management, QA testing, and deployment.
  • Package, test and deploy business software packages and updates to the end-user environment.
  • Create written operating system security plans and controls, in collaboration with Cybersecurity.
  • Create, test and deploy Group Policy Objects to implement the security plan controls
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of new desktop/laptop standardized hardware models, maintaining a continuous build and test cycle.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to Windows deployment and automation.Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 393.2 level

  • Develop, implement, and enhance automation solutions for Windows deployment processes.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies and tools that enhance deployment automation and efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering related field or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge and experience in Windows system administration and ability to work independently.
  • Experience in Windows troubleshooting, configuration, deployment, documentation, and/or operations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of PowerShell and/or other scripting and automation techniques
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities and independently resolve problems and provide solutions.
  • Broad experience and comprehensive knowledge of MDT, Intune and/or SCCM (capturing images (.wim), creating packages, advertisements, task sequences, operating system deployment (OSD) and queries) with knowledge of Sysprep, WinPE, and/or image deployment methods such as Lite-Touch.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to document security controls and procedural knowledgebase articles and effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.

Additional qualifications at the 393.2 level

  • Highly advanced knowledge of and substantial experience with Windows operating systems.
  • Substantial experience serving as a technical lead on projects, achieving positive results, and driving projects to closure on time and on budget.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information and provide advice to management.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
